SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Starting in the new year, Californians will start to see paper license plates instead of dealer decals on the backs of vehicles. A new law taking effect January 1, 2019, mandates that dealers give out temporary paper plates or permanent license plates issued by the California DMV. The law is all part of an effort to aid law enforcement as well as limit toll evasion. The plates will list information including a temporary license plate number, report of sale number, vehicle identification number, make and model. There are several reasons California lawmakers passed Assembly Bill 516. Currently, law enforcement isn't able to identify some vehicles that may have been involved in a crime, according to the DMV. Having no temporary plate also makes it difficult to investigate crimes involving vehicles. Another reason for the law is toll evasion. According to the DMV, people who purchase vehicles often delay attaching permanent plates, making it impossible to identify vehicles violating toll requirements. Now some companies are helping their workers tackle the mounting debt, offering student loan assistance as a benefit.Fidelity Investments is one company leading the way with its Step Ahead Student Loan Assistance program. “We look at our jobs day-to-day and we try and figure out how we can help people make the right financial decisions in their lives and it was something holding back some of our folks here at Fidelity," said Jared Roethlisberger, a Fidelity Branch Manager in Mission Valley. According to data from Fidelity's website, 86 percent of young people would commit to their employer for five years if they helped pay off their student loans. Some companies are also getting creative, like providing an option to transfer carry-over paid time off (PTO) into a payment against student debt.Despite Fidelity's success, few businesses overall are offering this benefit. A 2018 survey by the Society for Human Resource Management found only 4 percent of organizations offered financial aid to help employees repay student loans, the same as in 2017. So in the month of September, the Prostate Cancer Foundation has a simple challenge, to eat 30 healthy foods in 30 days. They are calling it the "Eat It To Beat It Challenge." Prostate cancer can be silent, with no symptoms at all, and that was the case for Rancho Bernardo resident Patrick Sheffler. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Seven people were displaced following a house fire in Mountain View early Saturday morning, according to San Diego Fire-Rescue.The fire was reported just after 3:30 a.m. on Teak Street near Ocean View Boulevard. Crews quickly responded and were able to get the blaze under control. The home that burned sits on a lot with a second home in front, and the front house was not damaged.Family and residents of the front house said they believe the fire started from a washer/dryer unit. They also said that they had to pull bars off of a window to help people escape, with those outside pulling and those inside kicking on the bars. Four people were were hurt after climbing through the broken window.Crews say a total of seven people were displaced and the American Red Cross was called in to help, but family on scene said everyone is okay. They said the hardest part is realizing they lost everything, including Christmas presents that the two little girls who lived in the burned home had just unwrapped the day before.The family started a GoFundMe to raise money following the fire. 1112

The park’s seasonal nighttime show, Electric Ocean, will continue through September 2, along with SeaWorld’s summer concert series. The live events are free with park admission. A single-day weekday-only ticket is .99 through the sale. A two-day ticket is available for .99.
