President Donald Trump will be holding a Friday press conference ahead of a planned trip to the New Jersey area. The president focused his briefing on new production numbers. The president said under the Defense Production Act, new factories and laboratories are being built all over the country to build what America needs to fight the coronavirus pandemic.“Incredible what we’ve been able to do in a short amount of time,” Trump said.He quoted new manufacturing production numbers, showing industrial production rose for the third straight month in the country. The president said we are producing so many ventilators, we are sending them to countries around the world. According to Trump, American companies are producing 400 million more masks than last year.As for a vaccine, three candidates are in Phase 3 trials currently. He said at the press briefing he thought the elderly and those at risk should get the vaccine first, but that he will listen to his experts on that. He said "those lists are being created now," referencing plans for how to distribute the vaccine once it's created. Earlier in the day, media outlets reported Robert Trump, the president's brother, was "very ill."During Friday's press conference, President Trump said he hopes his brother will be all right, but “he’s having a hard time."White House spokesperson Judd Deere says the president is expected to visit his 72-year-old brother at a hospital in Manhattan on Friday. Trump was already scheduled to visit his property in Bedminster, New Jersey, on Friday. There is also a lot of reporting Friday following remarks the president made about opposing funding for the post office. He acknowledged he's starving the Postal Service of funding to make it harder to process an expected surge in ballots he worries could cost him reelection. The president said on Fox Business Network that among the sticking points on a new virus relief package are Democrats’ demand for billions of dollars to assist states in protecting the election and helping postal workers process mail-in ballots. In a series of tweets Friday before his press conference, the president said he is ready to send another round of stimulus checks and additional PPP payments. Responding to a question during his press conference about whether he would approve millions in funding for the Post Office if Democrats gave him what he wanted, he responded, “Sure, If they give us what we want."Democratic rival Joe Biden has likened Trump's actions to sabotage. 2508
RANCHO CORDOVA, Calif. (AP) — Gov. Gavin Newsom says he wants a Southern California county to reimpose stay-home orders amid a surge in positive coronavirus tests there and through much of the state. Imperial County, with a population of 175,000 people on the state’s border with Mexico, has been the slowest in the state to reopen. "Some counties, like Imperial, haven't been able to move into that attestation process, because they can't meet that criteria," Newsom said of the county's struggle to reopen. "We reserve the right to toggle back if we don't see movement at the local level."Newsom said the state is working with the county to send additional resources to help local officials address coronavirus cases. Despite this, the governor said interventions are not making enough of an impact, leading to reinstituting the stay-at-home order. The county's positivity rate has averaged 23% in the last week, compared with 5.7 % percent statewide. Newsom said there is also a need to decompress the county's hospital system, which other counties have helped do by accepting patients."I just sent 76 ventilators down to Imperial County. We are in the midst of the first wave of this pandemic. We are not out of the first wave. This disease does not take a summer vacation," Newsom said. Newsom added that he's awaiting a CDC study to determine if outside cases — for example, in hotspot Arizona — have contributed to the rise in cases in Imperial County. The Imperial Valley provides many of the vegetables in U.S. supermarkets during winter. 1553

Rescuers are searching for crew members aboard two US Marine planes that collided mid-air off the coast of Japan in the early hours of Thursday morning, according to Japan's Ministry of Defense and the US Marine Corps. At least one Marine was killed in the crash and the body has been recovered, the Marine Corps said in a statement. A second Marine was rescued and is described to be in fair condition. Five other Marines remain missing. The KC-130 and F/A-18 collided at 1:42 a.m. local time, according to a Japanese Defense Ministry statement.According to a statement from the US Marine Corps, the crash happened during an aerial refueling that was part of a routine training. The primary mission of a KC-130 is airborne refueling. It is believed five crew were on board the KC-130 and two on the F/A-18 at the time of the crash, two US defense officials told CNN.First Lt. Josh Hayes, a public affairs officer with the 3rd Marines Expeditionary Forces based out of Okinawa, told CNN the rescued Marine was in "fair condition."The killed Marine was found by a Japanese military ship at 12:13 p.m. local time and was being transferred to a mainland medical facility, according to Japanese defense spokesperson Norio Harada.Japan has dispatched 10 aircraft and three ships from its Self Defense Force and Coast Guard to help with the search for five people still believed to be missing. The US 7th Fleet said in a statement that it was supporting ongoing search and rescue efforts with a Navy P-8A Maritime Patrol and Reconnaissance Aircraft flying out of Kadena Air Force Base.Rescue teams are battling bad weather which has passed through the area in the last 24 hours or so, bringing showers, storms and sustained winds of 30 to 40 mph."The weather is definitely going to play a factor," said Hayes. "It's a full team effort between us and the Japanese defense force. And we're hoping to get our Marines back."The crash happened approximately 200 miles (321 kilometers) off the coast of Iwakuni, Japan, a US Marine Corps official told CNN.The planes "had launched from Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni and were conducting regularly scheduled training when the mishap occurred," according to a statement from the US Marine Corps.Wednesday's incident comes on the same day that the Marines released a report on a crash in July 2017, also involving a KC-130 variant that killed 15 Marines and one sailor. That KC-130T crash took place in Leflore County, Mississippi, and the "investigation determined that the aircraft's propeller did not receive proper depot-level maintenance during its last overhaul ... in September 2011, which missed corrosion that may have contributed to the propeller blade" coming loose during the flight and going into the aircraft's fuselage, according to a Marine Corps statement on the investigation.The-CNN-Wire 2845

President Donald Trump’s supporters have seized on a photo circulating on Twitter since late Sunday that shows Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden not wearing a mask while he talks to a campaign staffer on a plane. Why wasn’t Biden, who has made a point to put on a facial covering throughout the campaign, wearing a mask? Because the photo was taken in November 2019, before the first case of the new coronavirus was reported, and months before global health officials began urging people to wear masks in order to stop the spread of the virus. 559
