SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – A man was fatally shot by San Diego Police as officers responded to calls of vandalism in the Mountain View neighborhood early Monday morning.According to police, officers were called to the 300 block of South Pardee Street just before 4:30 a.m. after receiving reports of “a violent disturbance involving a weapon.”Residents at the home were woken up by a man they say ripped a metal curtain rod from the window and began breaking windows and other objects.“Fearing for their safety, they asked another resident to call 911. A neighbor also heard the commotion and called 911 reporting it sounded like someone was being tortured,” police said.When officers arrived, police say they gave the man directions in English and Spanish but received no response. According to police, that’s when the man crawled through a broken window before running towards officers with a metal pole.“Fearing for their safety, one officer fired a bean bag round, one officer fired a Taser, and one officer fired several rounds from his service pistol. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A Harley-Davidson owner is hoping for leads after his motorcycle disappeared from a mall parking lot in Mission Valley.Sebastian Rudi, who works at Westfield Mission Valley, was expecting to see his newly purchased 2002 Harley after his shift ended around 10 p.m. Saturday. Instead the bike that was parked in the underground lot, feet from the ramp into the mall, was gone."A little panic ... mixture of anger and pure disappointment," said Rudi.MAP: Track crime happening in your neighborhoodThat may actually an understatement. The ,000 bike he bought in April was his pride and joy."I spent my entire life wanting a Harley. Spent every cent to my name on a Harley. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A San Diego man convicted of murder will be a free man, decades before his scheduled release.Donnell Fulcher’s conviction for a Barrio Logan murder in 2006 was overturned due to changes in DNA standards, said Deputy District Attorney Hector Jimenez.On Tuesday, Fulcher pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter and assault with a firearm rather than go through a third trial. The judge sentenced Fulcher to 14 years, but he received credit for time he already served.Because of that, Fulcher will be released from custody tonight or tomorrow. This result comes after the San Diego County District Attorney’s Conviction Review Unit took a second look at cases involving DNA mixtures, meaning more than one DNA source is found in a sample. Fulcher’s case relied heavily on this type of evidence.The top forensic science group that analyzes DNA released guidelines that are now more conservative, which affected Fulcher’s case. Earlier this year, the District Attorney’s office agreed to give Fulcher a new trial.“We still believe that we have the right guy, but we lost confidence in the conviction so we wanted to give the defendant a chance to have a new trial if he wanted. He chose to plead guilty instead, so at the end of the day, I believe justice was done,” Jimenez said. Fulcher has always maintained his innocence.“I don’t think you can put any limit on the happiness that going free can have for someone who’s serving a life sentence. He is very, very happy. His family is very happy. This is really a joyous moment for all of them,” said Fulcher’s defense attorney Knut Johnson.This would have been Fulcher’s third trial. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – A new program vows to help buy houses for teachers who are working on making it in San Diego.“It's not huge to a lot of people, but it's more space than we've ever had,” says Amy Noble as she takes us on a tour of the new house that she and her husband, Eric, bought in South Orange County. In exchange, educators share 25 percent of the investment gain or loss with Landed. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A La Jolla High School student was arrested Friday for threatening a school shooting this week.San Diego Police were made aware of a social media threat Thursday, however, police said the 15-year-old student made the threat Wednesday "to conduct a shooting at the school."The student was contacted Friday, SDPD said. Police searched the student's home but did not find any firearms. Police did not say if they believed the threat to be credible, but that it warranted investigation.Police said the student has been placed in Juvenile Hall."This is absolutely an example of how ‘See something, Say something’ is supposed to work," said SDPD Chief Michael Marquez. "Students warned administrators a threat had been made, and school leaders notified all parents of this report. Multiple parents then spoke with their students and uncovered potential evidence of a threat. In the end, it was this evidence which allowed police to take swift action this morning."Police said the student was already serving a suspension for a separate incident.
