BEIJING, June 24 (Xinhua) -- China said Wednesday that boosting regional trade and investment was a crucial task for countries in east Asia.     Premier Wen Jiabao also called on countries in east Asia to "deepen financial cooperation and infrastructure construction to increase the ability to confront economic risks." During talks with his Thai counterpart, Abhisit Vejjajiva, Wen said China would always support the leading role the Association of the Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) played in east Asia. Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao (1st L) holds a welcoming ceremony for Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva (2nd L) at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, capital of China, June 24, 2009.     On the Sino-Thai relationship, Wen said it had met the test, and substantial cooperation had developed, since the two countries forged diplomatic ties 34 years ago.     "China will work with Thailand to cement the traditional friendship and strategic cooperation to push forward bilateral ties," Wen said.     He proposed that the two sides maintain coordination on bilateral relations and major international issues, implement the agreement on economic and trade cooperation, and take effective measures to maintain steady trade development.     China encouraged its entrepreneurs to invest in Thailand, Wen said, adding that both countries should ensure a proposed highway from Kunming, China to Bangkok be completed at an early date and promote trade and logistics in the Mekong River area.     Abhisit said Thailand and China had enjoyed a long-term friendship and the relationship and cooperation in all areas had improved.     He noted that amid the financial crisis, Thailand would expand trade, agricultural, tourism and education cooperation with China.     He said Thailand adhered to the one-China principle and would like to push forward cooperation between China and ASEAN.     Before the talks, Wen held a ceremony to welcome Abhisit, who arrived in Beijing Wednesday for a four-day tour.

GUANGZHOU, July 19 (Xinhua) -- Typhoon Molave hit land in south China early Sunday, with heavy rain forecast in most parts of the Guangdong Province in the following two days, local observatory said.     Molave, the 6th tropical storm this year which became typhoon, landed at Nanao town in Shenzhen City of Guangdong Province at 0:50 a.m. Sunday Beijing Time, with winds up to 145 km per hour in its eye.     Strong gales and heavy rains hit Shenzhen City, resulting in water flowing on streets. However, as residents and vehicles were scare during the night, the weather had no major impact on local people's living yet. BEIJING, May 6 (Xinhua) -- China and Portugal agreed here Wednesday to enhance friendly exchanges and cooperation.     Top Chinese legislator Wu Bangguo and top Chinese political advisor Jia Qinglin met with Portuguese parliament speaker Jaime Gama on Wednesday.     Wu, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), China's top legislature, spoke highly of China-Portugal relations and noted that China always conducted its ties with Portugal from a strategic, long-term perspective and is ready to advance their comprehensive strategic partnership. BEIJING, May 10 (Xinhua) -- China and Kuwait signed five agreements here on Sunday in an effort to further the bilateral relations to a higher level.     The agreements covered fields of energy, finance, telecommunication, transportation and education, according a press release from the Chinese Foreign Ministry. However, the press release does not give details about the agreements, only emphasizing they are among the positive steps to push foreword the bilateral relations.     Chinese President Hu Jintao and visiting Kuwaiti Emir Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah witnessed the signing ceremony after they conferred on the bilateral ties and other issues of common concern. BEIJING, April 21 (Xinhua) -- China and Albania issued a joint statement here Tuesday in which they said they would boost their traditional friendship and bilateral cooperation in all fields.     The statement was issued after official talks between Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao and his Albanian counterpart Sali Berisha in the Great Hall of the People during the afternoon.     The two countries vowed to increase mutual investment, encourage more business contacts and promote a balanced development of trade ties, the statement said.     China would support its competitive companies to invest in Albania and participate in the country's infrastructure construction, energy and mine exploitation, it said. Albania said it appreciated China's aid for its economic development. It acknowledged there is only one China in the world and the government of the People's Republic of China (PRC) is the sole legal government representing the whole China and Taiwan is an inalienable part of China. China highly appreciated the stance of the country, the statement said.     In face of the global financial crisis, the two countries called on the international community to enhance financial supervision cooperation, fight trade protectionism and reduce the damage of the crisis to developing countries.     China respected the Albanian people's choice of a development path in line with their domestic situation and understood their efforts to join the European integration process, the statement said.     The two countries agreed to abide by the principles of the UN Charter, and support the UN's leading role in safeguarding international security, promoting common development and peacefully solving international disputes.     Both sides proposed to strengthen the function and authority of the UN and UN Security Council and agreed to increase cooperation in the United Nations and other international organizations, the statement said.     The international community should work together to combat terrorism, and the two nations agreed to respect each other's security concerns.     Albania spoke highly of China's achievements since the founding of the PRC 60 years ago and appreciated China's contributions to world peace and development.     Both sides applauded their remarkable cooperation in various areas, and agreed to hold activities to celebrate the 60th anniversary of bilateral ties, the statement said.
