  BEIJING, Jan. 2 (Xinhua) -- Premier Wen Jiabao has urged Chinese companies to stress innovation to combat the impact of global economic turmoil.     Wen made the remarks as he visited companies, markets, communities and rural areas in China's eastern Shandong Province over the first two days of 2009. It would increase domestic spending by more than 100 billion yuan.     The policy would remain in force for at least five years, which would increase appliance sales by more than 500 billion yuan, Wen added.     He highlighted the importance of innovation and called for enterprises to design and develop high-quality, low-cost products for rural markets.     Wen also went to a village in Shandong Province to talk with rural families. He reassured villagers that apart from the expanded subsidies, the government also encouraged enterprises to purchase old appliances and allow farmers to trade in older models for new ones as a move to sustain domestic demand.     The premier reiterated "confidence" wherever he went, saying a solid material foundation, stable financial system, abundant cash flow, large domestic markets, appropriate macroeconomic policies and others steps boosted confidence.     Wen said the State Council, or Cabinet, is drawing up two major plans.     One involves 10 programs to expand demand, further detailing and specifying the 10 stimulus measures kicked out last year.     The other includes the readjustment and improvement of 10 pillar industries. Plans for the development of steel industry and automobile industry have been rolled out and others are under way.

KUNMING, Jan. 3 (Xinhua) -- The Yunnan section of the Sino-Vietnam land boundary demarcation project has ended with 665 boundary tablets erected, an official with the foreign affairs office of southwest China's Yunnan Province said here on Saturday.     During the past eight years, six Chinese teams cooperated with their Vietnamese counterparts and demarcated the borders of Jiangcheng, Jinping, Hekou, Maguan, Malipo and Funing.     All the land border demarcation work in the Yunnan area was completed on Dec. 20, in accordance with the "Vietnam-China Land Border Treaty."     Large boundary tablets were established on Hekou's roads, rail terminal and harbor along the Yunnan section of the border.     The completion of the task represents a major step in Sino-Vietnamese relations.     China and Vietnam exchanged views on Wednesday on solving the remaining issues connected to border demarcation and erecting border markers, reached an agreement and issued a joint statement.

BRUSSELS, Jan. 30 (Xinhua) -- China and the European Union (EU) on Friday vowed to further enhance their partnership and deepen cooperation in various fields.     In a joint declaration issued after Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao's visit to Brussels, the two sides emphasized the importance of the strategic partnership in face of globalization and the current volatile international situation.     The document says that the China-EU relationship has gone beyond the bilateral domain and is increasingly of global strategic significance. "Both sides are of the view that it is imperative to further improve the China-EU comprehensive strategic partnership, which reflects the common wishes of the two sides and are in their interests," says the declaration. BEIJING, Jan. 24 (Xinhua) -- China Saturday expressed "serious concerns" over India's anti-subsidy investigation on sodium nitrite on Jan. 14 and probe into the special safeguard measure of sodium carbonate on Jan. 16.     Following bilateral consultations, China has urged domestic businesses to contact their Indian peers and solve trade issues through talks and cooperation, Yao Jian, spokesman of the Ministry of Commerce, said in a statement.     But India didn't respond to Chinese efforts and launched its first anti-subsidy probe over Chinese-made sodium nitrite, Yao said. "China expresses dissatisfaction over it," he noted.     China also expressed resolute opposition to India's probe into the special safeguard measure of sodium carbonate, the spokesman stated.     The probe not only hurts the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese businesses, but has negative impact on the stable bilateral trade relations, Yao said.     The current global financial crisis has serious impact on the economies worldwide and all nations need to boost cooperation in fighting the crisis, he said.     China hoped that India could show prudence and restraint in using trade remedies, as trade protectionism could only add to the grim world trade situation.     He added that China and India should step up consultations and promote cooperation among industries from the two developing nations.
