RAMONA (KGTV)- Myrtle the coyote is recovering at The Fund for the Animals Wildlife Center in Ramona, after the Rancho Bernardo neighborhood came together to help.Katie Ryan has been watching Myrtle the coyote for years, and sounded the alarm when she first saw the new mother ensnared in a pipe. Katie guessed Myrtle was trying to capture a small animal that hid in the pipe and she got stuck. It took five weeks of constant phone calls, prayers and sleepless nights looking after Myrtle before she could get a trapper to catch the elusive coyote."I can't even describe I was crying and laughing all at the same time," Ryan said, her smile wide. She enlisted neighbors to block off the area, after a failed attempt Monday night due to a man trying to approach Myrtle and scaring her off.Neighbors said they guarded the neighborhood for hours Tuesday evening, going home with no hope. (CNS) - A teenage boy was fatally struck by a pickup truck while riding a skateboard on a residential road in the San Diego Country Estates neighborhood of Ramona, authorities said Wednesday.The fatality occurred around 7:20 p.m. Tuesday on Barona Mesa Road near La Plata Court, in a neighborhood south of San Vicente Road, California Highway Patrol Officer Jeff Christy said.Two teenage boys were riding skateboards to the east in the eastbound lane of Barona Mesa Road and another teen was riding a bicycle eastbound in the westbound lane, Christy said. He said that when a 20-year-old Ramona man driving a 2001 Ford F-150 eastbound on Barona Mesa Road came around a left-hand curve in the road, the front of the truck one of the boys, who was riding his skateboard in the middle of the eastbound lane.The driver stopped immediately and began rendering medical aid to the victim, the officer said. Medical personnel also responded, but the youth was pronounced dead at the scene. His name was withheld pending family notification.Intoxication was not a factor in the crash, Christy said. 1112

Researchers at University of Michigan have developed a fake news detector to help fight against misinformation. The technology is "an algorithm-based system that identifies telltale linguistic cues in fake news stories." The team says the system is "comparable to and sometimes better than humans at correctly identifying fake news stories."According to their study, linguistic analysis tracks things like grammatical structure, word choice, punctuation and complexity. But there are challenges to making sure the system properly deciphers stories. Researchers say the difficulty in building a fake news detectors is not in developing the algorithm itself, "but in finding the right data with which to train that algorithm."The system is still in its beta stage.
