It's a yearbook controversy, which has an Arizona charter school issuing an apology to parents Monday night.Parents who just received the yearbook from Sonoran Science Academy in Peoria, Arizona were in disbelief after seeing a page in which a student with a Muslim first name was voted "most likely to bomb the U.S."Bree Brown has an 11-year-old daughter at the school and said her daughter showed her the post over the weekend and appeared disturbed by it."I looked down and read, most likely to bomb the U.S. and I just sat there for a second and thought, 'No way. This is not happening,'" Brown said."I thought it was a joke, I didn't believe her at first," added her husband, Kian Brown. The parents said they wondered how something like that could have made it to the printer and been published with no oversight from school administrators."It was missed. There's a faculty advisor in charge of the yearbook. They did not catch it," said Matthew Benson, a spokesman for the Sonoran Science Academy. The parents also questioned other posts in the yearbook. It was all part of a survey school staff said they gave the students.Questions included "voted most likely to..." and  "favorite memory..." — the kind of questions you see in every yearbook, almost a rite of passage for the graduating class. In this case, school officials said there was no vote. Students filled in the blanks themselves, hence the 8th grader himself wrote in the words "most likely to bomb the U.S."Regardless, the Browns said they felt faculty should have caught that before the book made it to the printer.Other posts that caught their eye included a student "voted most likely to 'boonk' from a gang member."Kian Brown said he looked up the word and found it to mean "steal."Another student voted "most likely to be an internet scammer," and one student who stated their favorite memory as "being stabbed with a pencil.""That was an actual occurrence that happened at the school. Police were called. It wasn't funny," Bree Brown saidSchool officials said they are investigating the incident and put out the following statement:Statement from Principal Deb Hofmeier:"On Friday night, I became aware of an inappropriate entry included with the 2017-18 yearbook in which a student self-designated they were ‘Voted Most Likely to Bomb the U.S.’ To be clear, there was no class vote. Each student self-selected a superlative for himself or herself. After speaking with the student and the student’s parents, it is apparent the comment was a misguided attempt at humor. There was absolutely no malicious intent on the part of the student.Regardless, our entire administrative team takes this seriously. The comment should have been caught and removed during the editing process before the yearbook was published. Our school is investigating how this incident occurred, and has already taken disciplinary action against the faculty adviser in charge of the yearbook. Going forward, we will be instituting a more stringent review process to ensure this cannot happen again. In the meantime, we have reached out to each of our Sonoran Science Academy-Peoria families to express our deep regret regarding this incident. We are also collecting yearbooks from students who had already received them, and will have a new, edited batch printed and distributed at no additional charge to families. On behalf of Sonoran Science Academy-Peoria, I apologize for any inconvenience and for the larger situation, which does not accurately reflect our students, school mission or the values we share with our families and community." 3613

INDIANAPOLIS -- Jared Fogle is now asking for  million as remuneration for a “conspiracy” to rob him of his fortune he says was orchestrated by judges, the U.S. attorney’s office, FBI investigators and the attorney general of the United States.   Fogle’s latest filing was entered by the court on Monday. In it, the former Subway pitchman – now serving more than 15 years on charges of child porn and sexual conduct with a minor – alleges federal Judge Tanya Walton-Pratt, who sentenced him to prison, two members of the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals, an Illinois U.S. district court judge and both of his lawyers undertook a “scheme to defraud” Fogle by tricking him into pleading guilty to a false charge.READ | Full?Fogle?plea agreementIn addition to his wrongful imprisonment, Fogle claims he suffered at least million in damages. The suit asks the government to grant him threefold damages as remuneration in the sum of million. The claim – which purports to outline a sprawling RICO case involving fraudulent search warrants, bogus charges and ill-gotten advice from attorneys to agree to pay .4 million in restitution to Fogle’s juvenile victims (at least million of which Fogle had already paid prior to his sentencing) – is the latest attempt by Fogle to get out of the plea he entered in November 2015.Previous such attempts – an apparent “sovereign citizen” defense rejected in November, the demonstrably false claim that Judge Pratt was “biased” because of her two teenage daughters at the time of the sentencing (she had none), and the argument that he pleaded guilty to an “unconstitutional” charge of conspiracy –  have so far been unsuccessful. In addition to this most recent filing, Fogle also has two open civil cases against Pratt and the U.S. government arguing he should be released.Fogle is joined in the RICO case claim by two other defendants: James Nathan Fry and Frank Edwin Pate.Pate, a former resident of Bonham, Texas, was sentenced to 210 months in federal prison in November 2015 for wire and mail fraud in connection to a foreign currency trading scheme and ordered to pay .8 million in restitution.Fry was sentenced in October 2013 to more than 17 years in prison and to pay million in restitution for his role in a .65 billion Ponzi scheme, according to the Star Tribune in Minneapolis.Pate and Fry are asking for million and 4 million in restitution, respectively, from judges, FBI agents, assistant U.S. attorneys and IRS employees connected to their cases. In all, the three men’s combined complaint targets 34 defendants and asks for 3 million in damages to be paid to Fogle, Pate and Fry.At least part of Fogle’s motivation behind the RICO suit may have been made clear Wednesday, when he filed a motion to dismiss in his civil suit against Pratt claiming that, because he has filed a RICO suit naming her as a defendant, the entire U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Indiana is now a “conflict of interest” forum.Fogle is currently serving his sentence at the federal correctional institute in Englewood, Colorado. He is scheduled to be released on July 11, 2029. 3182

It happens every year around this time. The weather gets colder and cold and flu viruses start making the rounds. But this year, there's a third illness expected to enter the mix: COVID-19.New cases are coming in at a record pace. Hospitalizations and deaths are rising, too. Now, public health experts say the pandemic is in a "critical phase,” warning winter could be the worst season yet for the novel coronavirus.Cold weather is one of the main reasons that doctors expect cases to rise sharply over the next couple of months. Researchers say the virus survives best in cold, dry conditions without direct sunlight. The same conditions that fuel cold and flu seasons. The cold weather also pushes more people to spend time indoors, where the virus can spread more easily, especially if air ventilation is poor.“Pandemic fatigue" is another reason COVID-19 cases could surge this winter. The surgeon general says people aren't taking precautions as seriously as they were before and that it's already causing an increase. That fatigue is expected to get worse this holiday season. Many people got together for Thanksgiving, and Hanukkah, Christmas and Kwanzaa are right around the corner.Experts say while some people are simply tired of social distancing and being isolated, others plan to make an exception for just one day with family.Aside from warm weather, experts think this spring will bring a brighter outlook for ending the pandemic, with new therapeutics and vaccines to help bring cases under control. 1520

In the last year, the MeToo movement has led the charge in women speaking openly about sexual harassment, which in turn has caused a number of prominent men in powerful positions to lose their positions of power. Now there are questions on whether the Christmas song "Baby, It's Cold Outside," which was first recorded in 1944, should no longer be played due to its lyrics. Since the 40s, the song has been recorded by dozens of popular artists. WDOK Christmas 102.1 in Cleveland, Ohio cited complaints by listeners in pulling the song from its airwaves last week. Denver's KOSI-FM also stopped playing the song but has since recanted, also citing listener feedback. “We value the opinion of all our listeners and appreciate the feedback we received,” said KOSI 101.1 Program Director, Jim Lawson in a media release. “Respondents voted 95 percent in favor of us keeping the song. While we are sensitive to those who may be upset by some of the lyrics, the majority of our listeners have expressed their interpretation of the song to be non-offensive.”Some suggest the theme of the song is that a woman is being harassed to stay at a man's home and have another drink on a cold night. In the song, the woman suggests she should leave multiple times, only for the male singer to persuade her not to. Here are the full lyrics to the song: I really can't stay - Baby it's cold outside 1412
