SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A San Diego firefighter who allegedly raped a 17- year-old girl was ordered Friday to stand trial on four felony sexual assault counts.Justin Curtis Price, 35, a fire engineer-paramedic who has been with the city public-safety agency for 10 years, was arrested in late April for the alleged Nov. 1, 2018, sexual encounter.Prosecutors allege Price had known the teen since she was about 9 or 10 years old. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A woman was killed in a chain-reaction crash triggered by a loose dog in lanes of state Route 94 near downtown San Diego today.Three cars were involved in the crash, which was first reported just after 10:30 a.m. on westbound Route 94 near 25th Street.A Ford F-150 owned by the San Diego Humane Society was parked in the median of the freeway with the driver and a passenger still inside, preparing to capture a dog when the animal ran into lanes of traffic, a California Highway Patrol dispatcher told City News Service.Multiple cars stopped and swerved, including a Toyota Camry with three occupants that braked and came to a stop in the No. 1 lane, the dispatcher said.A Dodge truck, also in the No. 1 lane, swerved into the median to avoid the Camry, and was struck in the right rear corner by a GMC Yukon towing a trailer that was unable to stop in time.The force of the impact pushed the Dodge into the Camry, which in turn pushed the Camry into the Humane Society pickup, according to the dispatcher.In the aftermath of the accident, it wasn't immediately clear how many cars were involved, but responding fire crews realized the Camry, which at some point had moved to the right shoulder of the freeway, was also part of the crash and launched a rescue operation for that car's occupants, according to a CHP incident log.A 53-year-old woman in the back seat of the Camry sustained a major head injury and was taken to Scripps Mercy Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries, the dispatcher said.The woman's identity wasn't immediately released.Three other people, including two from the Camry and one from the GMC, 1652

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - An alleged drunken driver was going 121 mph when he caused a fiery freeway pileup that killed two men and seriously injured a woman on Interstate 15 last year, a prosecutor told jurors Tuesday, but a defense attorney claimed an off-duty San Diego police sergeant is actually to blame for the deaths.Jeffrey Brian Levi, 39, is charged with murder, gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, hit-and-run and drunken driving, for the Jan. 2, 2018, deaths of 33-year-old Jesus David Dominguez and 19-year-old Isaac Felix, who were burned to death inside a Toyota Corolla that was struck at about 11:45 that night in the fast lane of northbound Interstate 15 near Miramar Road.Giovanna Dominguez -- Jesus Dominguez's sister and Felix's girlfriend - - was also a passenger in the Corolla. She survived but sustained broken bones and burns across her body.RELATED: Suspected drunk driver facing murder charge in fiery crash that killed twoDeputy District Attorney Andrew Aguilar told jurors in his opening statement of Levi's trial that the defendant rear-ended the Corolla, then walked away from the crash scene unscathed.The Corolla was left disabled in the fast lane with no lights on, its three occupants "sitting ducks" for an ensuing crash, Aguilar said.A short time later, a Ford Explorer driven by off-duty San Diego police Sgt. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A San Diego man who provided alcohol to an underage drinker who subsequently caused a crash that killed her passenger was sentenced to 240 days in custody, the City Attorney's Office announced Wednesday. Fraidoon Ahmad gave alcohol to Yolanda Lozano and Mabel Bahena, both 19, on Feb. 17, 2017. Lozano later drove while drunk and collided with a truck on Interstate 15, killing Bahena. Lozano pleaded guilty to gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and was sentenced to one year in custody, with Bahena's family asking a judge for leniency as the two women had been best friends since grade school. Ahmad pleaded guilty in May to misdemeanor charges of furnishing alcohol to a person under 21 and furnishing alcohol to a minor causing great bodily injury and death. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - California State Treasurer John Chiang will visit San Diego Tuesday as part of a five-city tour to announce the launch of CalSavers, the state's new retirement savings program.CalSavers will serve as a state-run retirement plan for private-sector workers at companies with five employees or more. State officials boast that accounts provided by the program are portable and paid for by payroll contributions. Gov. Jerry Brown authorized the program's implementation in 2016 and enrollment will open next July.Program guidelines require qualifying employers to enroll their employees in the program within the next five years, but employees themselves can opt out. State officials estimate CalSavers will help roughly 7.5 million California residents save for retirement."CalSavers' goal is to escape a vicious, societal circle, where each successive generation of Americans is on track to retire poorer than the last," Chiang wrote in a March opinion piece in the Orange County Register. "If we continue this trend by doing nothing, the strain on taxpayer funded health and human services likely would undermine the long-term financial stability of our state."The Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association filed suit against the state in May over the program, arguing it violates federal law to establish a state- run retirement savings program.
