SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The mountain lion euthanized by California Department of Fish and Wildlife wardens is the same animal responsible for attacking a boy at Los Pe?asquitos Canyon Preserve, CDFW announced Friday. The 4-year-old boy was among 11 people hiking the North San Diego County trail Memorial Day when the 80-pound female mountain lion attacked him. Wardens who went to the scene found the animal’s tracks and encountered it moments later. The mountain lion appeared to have little fear of humans: an abnormal behavior, CDFW said. RELATED: Boy attacked by mountain lion in San Diego's Los Pe?asquitos Canyon“The wildlife officers immediately killed the animal to ensure public safety and to collect forensic evidence to potentially match the mountain lion to the victim,” said CDFW officials in a news release. City park officials closed the trail for the public’s safety. DNA analysis from the boy and samples from the animal confirmed the euthanized mountain lion was responsible for injuring the boy. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The City of San Diego declared Thursday, August 6, as "Officer Jonathan Wiese Day."Wiese was the San Diego police officer who saved two-year-old twin girls after their father drove off Sunset Cliffs in June. The officer also saved the girls' father from the water. On Thursday, a proclamation was read and presented during a virtual Rancho Bernardo Community Council meeting.Wiese said he didn't rescue the girls for recognition, but said it was nice to see community support. The rescue happened early in the morning on June 13. Wiese, a K-9 officer, rappelled off a cliff using his 100-foot long dog leash to help.Wiese told 10News he is actually scared of heights and was thankful that it was dark the morning of the rescue. He joked that his wife told him he wouldn't have to wash the dishes on his day and that he hoped he'd get a free cup of coffee.Wiese was also the officer that helped take the suspected Poway Synagogue shooter into custody in April 2019. 989

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The former home of San Diego Padres icon Tony Gwynn has finally found a buyer."Mr. Padre's" Poway home, that had since been foreclosed, was sold on Dec. 13 for ,429,500, according to Realtor.com. The two-acre residence was placed on the auction block in June starting at .2 million. The posted legal notice said that .5 million was still owed on the home. After the auction failed to find a new owner, the lender took control of the property.RELATED: Family of MLB legend Tony Gwynn settles tobacco lawsuitWhen the home remained empty, suspicious activity and reported squatters took up residence inside the estate. In January, the San Diego County Sheriff's Department said they had received nearly half a dozen reports about trespassers at the address over the past few weeks.Realtor celebrity reporter Erik Gunther said the steady price cuts on the property encouraged the new buyer to "take a swing" at the home."After a drawn-out debacle involving squatters and foreclosure, the former home of Hall of Famer Tony Gwynn finally has a new owner," Gunther wrote. "The bank whiffed with their initial price of .12 million, but a steady number of price cuts over the past few months finally encouraged a buyer to take a swing at rehabbing the baseball legend's home."The 7,370-square-foot home features seven bedrooms, 5.5 baths, living room with fireplace, a spacious kitchen and dining room, and its grounds include a basketball court and a pool with a spa. Bad investments by Gwynn caused the MLB legend to file for bankruptcy in 1987, which may have played a role in difficulties holding on to the property after his death from cancer in 2014. The Gwynn family had owned the residence since 1991 for the bank took ownership, according to Realtor. 1784

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The government is sweetening the deal for investors who put their money into San Diego's most under-served neighborhoods, but the offer could be having a negative effect on the people who live in them.A new study from Zillow says prices in so-called opportunity zones grew 20 percent in a year after they received the government designation. That designation, part of 2017 tax reform, offered investors capital gains tax breaks for investing in the areas, which the IRS deems "economically distressed."San Diego County has about 30 of these zones, most of them concentrated in the city of San Diego's inner core. Zillow says the Colina del Sol neighborhood near City Heights, parts of Golden Hill and University Heights are the areas that could see the most investment. RELATED: San Diego's top neighborhoods to get more rental space for the money"It's been expensive to live here, but it's expensive to live anywhere," said Tomi Barnett, who lives in Colina del Sol. "It's starting at ,200 or ,300 (a month) for a one-bedroom."The steep price increases have led to concerns that the opportunity zones could ultimately price people out of their own neighborhoods. Erik Tilkemeier, who does economic development for the City Heights Community Development Corporation, said his group is working with officials to make sure the investments also benefit the community.RELATED: Making It In San Diego: How housing got so expensive"Our sidewalks are deplorable in a number of neighborhoods, the walk-ability is not what it should be," he said. "The challenge is all of those same improvements tend to cause gentrification."Tilkemeier added that the government shut down earlier this year delayed getting answers to some key questions on the program. 1775
