SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Reverend Sandra Dority knows the dangers of heart disease, the top killer in San Diego County."My sister just passed from a heart attack in December, and my mom had congestive heart failure," she told 10News this week.That's why the 74-year old makes sure to eat right, exercise and, above all, know her numbers."My blood pressure is 116 over 74, and that was after a five mile walk on Saturday," she says.Dority tells everyone she can to know their numbers. It's a message she says is especially important in the black community, where the prevalence of heart attacks, stroke and high blood pressure are higher than normal."We have to change our lifestyle," she says. "There is a better way to live, because the numbers aren't changing unless we change."Dority was one of the first people to join LiveWell San Diego in their Love Your Heart campaign, which offers free blood pressure screenings at hundreds of locations across the county. She brought information to her church, Mount Moriah Christian Church in Mira Mesa.Now, she volunteers at blood pressure screening events, helps run educational sessions, and makes sure pastors talk about heart health from the pulpit every Sunday."God is love and he wants us to reach out and let others know there's a better way to live. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego Police believe the man whose mud-covered body was found in the Tijuana River may have floated across the border into the United States, investigators said Friday. The man’s body was found Thursday in the river behind the Las Americas Premium Outlets, police said. He was partially covered in debris, water, and mud. An autopsy revealed the man had suffered traumatic injuries, but investigators did not provide details on the nature of them. “It is possible the man’s body was carried by the Tijuana River across the border into the United States, where it was discovered,” police said. The man had distinctive tattoos, which investigators hope to use to make an identification. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – San Diego County officials say they are no longer accepting waiver applications from elementary schools looking to reopen for in-person learning.The county’s COVID-19 Education Sector Team made the announcement Tuesday, stating:“This decision is based on the fact that as of September 1, 2020, all TK-12 schools within San Diego County would be permitted to reopen for in-person instruction, if the county’s case rate remains below 100 per 100,000 population for 14 days after coming off the State’s Monitoring List. Today is day 7 of this 14-day period, therefore in one week, all TK-12 schools could be allowed to open for in-person instruction, if the school leadership chooses to do so. Therefore, our application waiver process will be suspended.”The suspension is effective immediately.As of Aug. 20, there were 27 local schools that were approved for waivers. 893

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Residents wanting to take a hot shower at a La Jolla apartment complex could have to wait several days while crews work to repair a gas leak. The leak shut off hot water to three apartment buildings. Neighbors say they got a series of emails Saturday, one of them saying they wouldn’t have hot water for five to seven days. Residents say the issue is unacceptable. "I'm not getting in there, it's way too cold,” said Nick Imison. An email from his leasing company informed Imison he would be without hot water for about a week. Imison lives in the Regents La Jolla apartment complex. The email went on to say that their gas supply was shut off after crews found a gas leak. In the email, residents were told that if they need a shower during business hours, they need to stop by the office with an ID. “I was completely unacceptable for a complex that has about 600 units to just go hey yea you can come shower bring your id but it's only between the hours of nine and six,” Imison said. 10News reached out to the leasing company via email but have not heard back. In the email sent to residents, the company cites the need for several city and SDG&E required inspections before they can turn the gas back on. 1242
