SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego Harbor Police Tuesday arrested a man accused of attacking a teen Syrian refugee on board an MTS trolley, sparking a hate crime investigation. According to police, 26-year-old Adrian Vergara was arrested on an unrelated misdemeanor narcotic charge. During his arrest, Vergara was recognized as being wanted in connection to an ongoing hate crime investigation, police said. The arrest stems from the beating of a 17-year-old Syrian refugee on a San Diego Trolley car Oct. 15. Representatives for the Partnership for the Advancement of New Americans (PANA), who spoke on the teen's behalf, told 10News the teen was speaking Arabic while on FaceTime with a friend when a man on the trolley asked him, "Where are you from? Are you Mexican?"RELATED: Teen attacked on trolley in possible hate crimeThe teen reportedly responded, "No, I am Arab."According to the teen, the man then started punching him and cursing while using racial slurs. The victim reportedly exited the trolley at the 62nd Street station in Encanto. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego Police are investigating after a couple was found dead in a Torrey Highlands home Saturday night. According to police, the couple was expected in San Francisco earlier in the day, but they never showed up. When police arrived at the home on the 7400 block of Via Rivera in Torrey Highlands just before 10 p.m., they saw the body of a person through a window of the home. After entering the house, officers found an Asian man and woman in their 50s dead with trauma to their upper bodies. 10News spoke to neighbors who were stunned to see all the police activity in their quiet neighborhood."Everybody seems to mind their own business, I haven't heard of any problems whatsoever," neighbor Salam Hasenin said. "I hope we go back to our peaceful environment and I just feel really sad and bad for the people."Nick Palermino shares a back wall with the victims' home. He did not recall any commotion happening Saturday night. "We have a dog that has a doggie door, and she wasn't barking last night at all," Palermino said. "I hope it is isolated to this one incident. I hope it is not burglary that went bad."According to police, the victims’ home does not appear to be disturbed. Detectives are investigating the deaths. At this time, the identity of the victims has not been released. Anyone with information is asked to call San Diego Police at 619-531-2293. 1398

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego County officials have three words when it comes to wildfires: ready, set, and go. The Office of Emergency Services is calling on residents to take steps before a disaster to protect their homes and the safety of their families. Be Ready During a wildfire, defensible space can also make your home easier for firefighters to protect. State law requires you to create 100 feet of defensible space around your home. In addition to maintaining the lawn, trees and shrubs may need to be pruned or removed. Learn more here. Your home’s address should also be visible to emergency vehicles, whether the number is painted on the curb in front of your home or prominent near your front door or garage.Get Set Preparing your family for a wildfire also involves creating an emergency kit, practicing evacuation routes, and signing up for Alert San Diego to receive notifications. Learn more here. You can also download the free SD Emergency app for your phone. Go “Do not wait to be advised to leave if there is a possible threat to your home or evacuation route,” county officials say. Roads that are open may close as fire approaches. To avoid being caught in smoke or road congestion leave early. “If you are advised to leave by local authorities, do not hesitate! Doing so will not only support your safety, but will allow firefighters to best maneuver resources to combat the fire,” officials say. 1428
