A communication satellite almost out of fuel has gotten a new life after the first space docking of its kind. Northrop Grumman and Intelsat announced the successful docking nearly 22,500 miles above Earth on Wednesday. Northrop Grumman's satellite this week closed in on the aging Intelsat satellite and clamped onto it. The duo will remain attached for the next five years. The Intelsat satellite was never designed for this kind of docking, but officials said everything went well. A Kansas City man was arrested after he allegedly assaulted three people outside a Platte County motel and shot a service dog who tried to intervene in the attack. According to a probable cause statement, Mardrecuis D. Williams, 25, got into a fight with a person on Feb. 26 at a Motel 6. Both Williams and the other person were asked to leave the motel and not return. After being asked to leave, Williams returned twice overnight and knocked on the victims’ door, saying that he would kill them, according to the report. The next day, as the three victims were checking out and walking toward their vehicle, Williams and another suspect allegedly came out from behind a dumpster and began attacking them. At one point, Lolly, a 3-year-old Border Collie, attacked Williams, and he allegedly shot the service dog, the report said. Lolly was taken to an area animal hospital, where she had surgery to repair the gunshot wound to her left side and a ruptured spleen. Her intestines had fallen out due to the impact of the bullet, which veterinary staff also repaired. In addition, she had a three-inch laceration to her rear leg. The female victim told police that she suffers from a condition that causes joint pain, dizziness and panic attacks. Lolly helps provide balance during her dizziness episodes and provides comfort during panic attacks, she said.Williams was charged with three counts of second-degree assault, three counts of armed criminal action and one count each of unlawful use of a weapon, first-degree trespass and causing substantial injury to a service dog.He is being held at the Jackson County Jail on a ,000 cash bond. 1656

(WKMG/CNN) -- A 42-year-old Orlando woman is facing murder charges after authorities say she zipped up her boyfriend inside a suitcase.Deputies responded Monday after Sarah Boone reported Jorge Torres, 42, was dead.She told police she put him in the suitcase during a game of hide-and-seek.Boone said they were drinking alcohol, and she passed out in her bed while he was still in the suitcase.But deputies searched her phone and found videos showing Torres yelling he couldn't breathe from inside the suitcase.Boone can be heard laughing and saying, "that's what I feel like when you cheat on me" and yelling obscenities.She is facing second-degree murder charges. 677

Virtual reality could soon play a role in helping during childbirth. Some women are watching relaxing scenery and listening to soothing sounds during labor with VR goggles. It’s part of the research being done at Cedars-Sinai, a medical center in Los Angeles. The research is being done to see if VR can help ease pain as labor gets more intense. “What we did find was that women found it very helpful,” says Dr. Melissa Wong, who specializes in OB/GYN and maternal fetal medicine at Cedars-Sinai. “That women were describing it … one of my favorite descriptions of it was a woman (who) spoke about it as being like a virtual doula." That's some of the early feedback from women who took part in the study.Wong says there were some women who found the headset isolating because you can’t see others. But she thinks VR could be useful, whether someone is using pain medication or not. “I think it has the potential for the woman who wants to defer her epidural,” Wong says. “And then the other thing is, there are women who also don’t get complete relief from an epidural or who still feel significant anxiety even after an epidural.”The full results of the study will include the pain management scores and will be released in February 2020. 1255

Safehouse could potentially open a safe injection site any day now, and according to board members the site will be modeled after a safe injection site in Canada. The Works, under Toronto Public Health’s opioid harm reduction program, opened in 2017. It’s had 60,000 visits in two years. “It’s bringing people inside. This results in less drug use out in the neighborhood as well and an opportunity to connect people to services,” said Rita Shashin with The Works. Every user who comes to the facility sits in a waiting room after injecting. They are monitored to make sure there isn’t a delayed overdose and so they are not high on the streets. Then, the user sits and talks to a councilor about personal issues, maybe what is leading to their use, and also about the idea of going to rehab. Hundreds of users who have visited The Works, have gone to rehab. About 1,000 people have overdosed but every one of those lives were saved. In fact, not a single safe injection site around the world has reported an overdose death in its facility and overdoses in the respective surrounding communities have gone down, in some cases by 30%. “Look no one involved with Safehouse, myself included, says this is the answer to the opioid crisis. This is the answer to one small segment of the opioid crisis,” said Rendell.
