WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump spent time in a White House bunker during Friday night's protests outside the executive mansion. Secret Service agents rushed him there as some of the demonstrators were throwing rocks and tugging at police barricades. Trump spent nearly an hour in the underground shelter, which was designed for use in emergencies like terrorist attacks. That's according to a Republican close to the White House who was not authorized to publicly discuss private matters and requested anonymity. The account was confirmed by an administration official who also spoke on condition of anonymity. Protesters were a constant presence near the White House and nearby Lafayette Park over the weekend. Daytime hours saw peaceful protests and chants of "I can't breathe." 798

Two years ago, Michael Watson was in a rut. The 6-foot-4 inch teen weighed 335 pounds and was often bullied about his weight."My self-confidence was zero," Watson, who turns 18 on Wednesday, told CNN.As a junior at his Canton, Ohio, school, the teen decided to make a commitment to walk to and from school every day, about 20 minutes each way. And he made some changes in his diet. When he walks across the stage at graduation later this month, the McKinley High senior will be 115 pounds lighter. He walked to and from school in the rain and snowOne low moment came when a classmate told Watson he had something on his chin. When Watson rubbed his chin, the boy told him, "'No, third one down,'" Watson said. "That really hurt."Moments like that fueled his walking.Even if Watson wanted to take a day off, he couldn't. "I didn't even know when the bus came," he said. And on days when it was raining, people would ask if he wanted a ride. Michael declined. In addition to the walking, the student made a commitment to dieting, which especially took discipline when he was working his after-school job at a fast-food restaurant. The boy who was too afraid to approach girls now says he's surging with confidence. After the weight loss, he has no problem asking one out.The school is using his story to inspire othersTerrance Jones, who works as a family specialist and graduation coach at the school, told CNN that Watson's story stuck with him."It's an example of courageous personal development that's rare for a high school student," Jones said. "Mike's decision to the initiative to live a healthier lifestyle and to stay consistent with it will always stay with me."Jones said Michael's story was the catalyst for him to create a " 1744

WASHINGTON – President Trump's 2020 campaign announced Monday that it will no longer credential Bloomberg News reporters for its events after the outlet said it would not conduct investigations into the Democratic presidential candidates, but would continue to probe the Trump administration."The decision by Bloomberg News to formalize preferential reporting policies is troubling and wrong," Brad Parscale, Trump's 2020 campaign manager, said in a statement.Bloomberg News 487

WASHINGTON – The White House on Friday blasted the House's impeachment inquiry as "completely baseless" and a "reckless abuse of power" ahead of a deadline set by House Democrats for the White House to say whether it would participate in the impeachment proceedings.White House counsel Pat Cipollone sent a letter to House Judiciary Chairman Jerry Nadler attacking the Democrats' impeachment inquiry, though the message did not explicitly say that President Donald Trump's counsel would not take part."As you know, your impeachment inquiry is completely baseless and has violated basic principles of due process and fundamental fairness," Cipollone wrote in a two-paragraph letter. "Adopting articles of impeachment would be a reckless abuse of power by House Democrats, and would constitute the most unjust, highly partisan, and unconstitutional attempt at impeachment in our Nation's history."While the letter doesn't specifically state the White House won't participate, that's what it means, according to a senior administration official."The letter communicates that we will not participate in this process," the official said. The White House counsel concluded the brief letter by quoting Trump's tweet from earlier this week: "Whatever course you choose, as the President has recently stated: 'if you are going to impeach me, do it now, fast, so we can have a fair trial in the Senate, and so that our Country can get back to business.'"This story is breaking and will be updated. 1498

U.S. stock indexes retreated from their record highs after a government report showed that hiring was a touch weaker than expected last month. Employers added 145,000 jobs, short of the 160,000 economists had forecast. But the number was solid enough to cement Wall Street's view that the job market is holding up and can continue allowing households to spend, preserving the largest part of the economy. The bond market rallied after the report showed workers’ wages aren’t rising much, which lessens the threat of inflation. The yield on the 10-year Treasury note fell to 1.82% from 1.85%. The Dow Jones topped 29,000 for the first time ever, but retreated to close at 28,823.77 on Friday. 703
