A Middle Tennessee woman visiting Gatlinburg with her family got quite a surprise when she found a bear outside their hotel.  Kim Vastola, of Watertown was in Gatlinburg for her son’s baseball tournament and was staying on the first floor of a Quality Inn.Vastola was startled when she heard people yelling about a bear. She went outside and captured video of the bear on a tree behind the hotel before he made his way around the building.  Vastola said the person at the front desk told her the "town bear" – named Robert – was lurking around but there was no need to be alarmed.Apparently, “Robert” lives in the area and roams when he comes out of hibernation. No one was hurt.  723

A Phoenix restaurant caught a woman posing as a high school cheer mom to pocket money. The employees at Fry Bread House were skeptical when a woman came in asking for donations.“She told us our manager had ordered us brownies and cookies for a donation,” said Chef Kris Harris. The woman said the money would go to the Xavier College Preparatory cheer squad.Fry Bread House employees called their owner. She spoke with the woman and quickly realized they were being scammed. The restaurant alerted Xavier officials, who had already received two other reports of this same behavior. “I guess she just looked like a normal woman trying to raise money for her kid,” Harris explained. “It kind of blows your mind. I guess everybody is trying to find a new way to get something.”Xavier officials confirmed the scam and want people to be aware.  874

A nor'easter that left at least one person dead in the Northeast has mostly passed but hundreds of thousands of homes remain without electricity Friday.More than 530,000 customers are without power along the East Coast from Virginia to Maine after the region's second major storm in a week whipped the area with heavy snow and stiff winds, downing power lines and leaving precarious road conditions.Boston recorded six inches of snow on Thursday while parts of northwestern Massachusetts saw up to 24 inches, the National Weather Service said.A few lingering bands of snow and snow flurries are expected to move out of the region by Friday afternoon, CNN meteorologists said.  689
