You can read the full letter to parents from Superintendent Dr. Jack Parker below:Today, Wednesday, December 16, 2020, is our first snow-day of the school year. As snow continues to fall, the Mt Vernon Community School Corporation is canceling all in-person learning activities for the day. All students and staff will experience virtual learning from their homes. Today will be dedicated for review and catch-up on assignments. All students have only one new assignment today.Students will use the scientific process in planning appropriate clothing to remain warm and dry while spending time outside. Once this hypothesis has been identified, and appropriate attire has been secured, students will be expected to test their theory by going outdoors and playing in the snow.Step two of this assignment will be to practice the skills of estimation and measurement when throwing snowballs at one another while maintaining a minimum of 6’ of distance with others outside of their household. When being hit with said snowball, students are expected to practice their social skills and to use their good words.Extra credit can be earned by helping to shovel sidewalks and/or driveways.Students will self-report their grades to their teachers tomorrow during our regular virtual-learning day. Teachers have the option to not record this as a graded assignment. Students who are not feeling well will be expected to complete the alternative assignment of resting indoors and drinking plenty of fluids.Opportunities to work on assignments given on previous days, as well as consulting with teachers on this school-work, can be made throughout the day via e-mail or other teacher directed communication media. This story was originally published by Katie Cox on WRTV in Indianapolis. 1774

White House deputy press secretary Hogan Gidley said in a statement to CNN on Monday that Trump's staff "is focused on getting results for all Americans.""The President hires people to execute his policies and his staff is diverse in race, gender, religion and background. This administration is focused on getting results for all Americans -- and that's what it's done," Gidley said.Trump, in fact, often brags about the decline in African-American unemployment during his administration. The African-American unemployment rate hit a post-Great Recession peak of 16.8% in March 2010. Since then, unemployment has dropped steadily for all Americans. The White House declined on Monday to provide a list of White House officials who are black or members of other minority groups. The lack of diversity also gained attention on Sunday when Kellyanne Conway, a top adviser to the President, could not name a single African-American with an office in Trump's West Wing when pressed during an interview on Sunday.Conway could only name Ja'Ron Smith, a policy adviser and special assistant to the President -- a notch below the title of deputy assistant to the President -- who works in the Eisenhower Executive Office Building on the White House complex.Smith was the only black White House official at the table earlier this month when Trump met with a group of mostly black inner-city pastors at the White House."Mr. President, it's been an honor to serve you in this administration," Smith said during the event. "The things that you're doing under your leadership could drastically change situations and speak for people who can't speak for themselves. Each one of these leaders speak for a forgotten people around this country who have dealt with pain, regardless of who was President. And it's an opportunity for you to show your leadership to move things in a different direction." 1886
when the White House insisted that Irish Prime Minister, or Taoiseach, Leo Varadkar, come to Trump's golf course in Doonbeg, where the President will be staying, to host a meeting between the two leaders.A CNN source said the Irish government felt "that protocol dictates that any event they host for President Trump should be at a venue of their choosing and certainly not at an hotel owned by Trump." The source added, "It is a bit unseemly to demand that the Taoiseach host President Trump at his hotel."The source said the Irish side had offered to host Trump for dinner at a nearby venue, the Dromoland Castle, which is where President George W. Bush met with then Taoiseach Bertie Ahern in 2004, and as a compromise, offered to have the Taoiseach come to Trump's Doonbeg property for a breakfast. Both sides have now reached a compromise, and two sources familiar with the discussions say the leaders will meet at the airport in Shannon when the President arrives. Irish media report that the two will have their meeting at the airport's VIP section.A source with knowledge of internal discussions confirmed that the White House wanted the meeting to be at the Trump Doonbeg hotel but denied reports that the conversation about the venue was what caused the delay in announcing the Ireland visit. The White House said in a statement that the President and first lady Melania Trump "have accepted the invitation of Taoiseach Leo Varadkar of Ireland to visit Ireland while they are in Europe."Siobhan Miley, press spokesperson for the Irish Embassy in Washington, said in a statement, "We welcome the announcement of the visit by the US President. Detailed arrangements around the visit will be made public in due course."In an interview with Irish broadcaster RTE, Irish Foreign Minister Simon Coveney downplayed the squabble, saying, "The reason why there has been a delay here and uncertainty is that the US are essentially working out the President's visit to the EU, what's going to be a private element of that visit and what part would be very public, and in that context they are looking at Ireland."The two leaders 2125
