In one instance, Sky detected extremely low levels when Reynoso was sleeping, alerting him to get up. Sky was by Reynoso's side as he pursued a new career in the automotive field. Reynoso was commuting two hours to Universal Technical Institute (UTI) in Rancho Cucamonga for a fast-track program. "I was commuting 167 miles, one way, I would have to wake up around 2:30 a.m., start my drive at 3," said Reynoso.Reynoso did this five times a week, running on just a few hours of sleep. Sky was there to ensure his blood sugar levels were steady. "Everyone told me when we were getting ready to graduate that they were going to miss me, but mostly they were going to miss him because he was their support too."While Reynoso's diagnosis took away his old dreams, he now has a partner to help achieve new ones. 1711

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A sailboat and power boat collided near the Coronado Bridge Sunday afternoon, injuring four people, according to San Diego Harbor Police.A good Samaritan drove by and noticed people floating in life jackets as their boat took on water. He picked up nine people and ferried them to Pepper Park. "It's just what you do you're a boater, it's what you're supposed to do, you help out on the water, people have helped us and we've helped other people," Kary Brownlee said.The damaged powerboat, a Bayliner, was towed back to the Pepper Park launch ramp where four passengers were evaluated for minor injuries. No one was taken to the hospital.The sailboat cruised back to Coronado on its own power."All it takes is a split second, when the captain is not paying attention that could cause a collision," boat safety advocate Amos Zolna said. He explained sail boats generally have the right of way, as they are harder to maneuver, compared to a power boat. Zolna said it's hard to navigate near the bridge, due to the large pillars that create blind spots.Harbor Police reported the 911 call at 1:28 p.m. They are investigating the cause of the crash and if any alcohol was involved. 1204

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A San Diego dentist is giving parents a new tool to win the battle over brushing.Dr. Kami Hoss recently released a singing toothbrush that pairs with augmented reality technology."We gotta come up with brushes that are really fun and educate in a fun way," says Dr. Hoss.The brush plays a song for two minutes, which is the amount of time dentists recommend for brushing teeth. While the song plays, kids can use an app to watch augmented reality characters come to life on their phones.The characters "pop out" of a sticker placed on the bathroom mirror and teach kids how to brush properly. Hoss says this is the first toothbrush to use AR."It's Pixar quality," says Dr. Hoss of the animation. "We spent years developing this to make sure it's beautiful."According to the CDC, around 20% of kindergarteners have some form of tooth decay. Studies show that children brush their teeth 73% longer when listening to music. The toothbrush also helps people know when it's time to buy a new one. If someone uses it to brush twice a day, the battery will die after three months. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A man caught on video peering into a Pacific Beach home has neighbors on edge.The woman, who did not want to be identified, said she was woken up by the sound of police officers knocking on her door in the area of Mission Blvd. and Emerald St. early Tuesday.Officers told her that her neighbor was alerted to an individual in the alley between their residences by his security camera. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A Point Loma family is trying to raise awareness of what they call a “dangerous” intersection, after cars have slammed into their house.The home the Cohen family began renting this year sits at the intersection of Nimitz Blvd. and Evergreen St., and has been hit twice since they moved in.According to San Diego Police, officers have responded to collisions at that intersection at least twelve times in the last five years.“I went to go wake up my mom and told her that we should probably get out of here because there's a car going into our kitchen,” said 12-year-old Max Cohen, speaking about a crash that happened the week the family moved in back in January. “You look out the window and see cars speeding down the road and not stopping at all on this turn.”Before they started renting, the Cohen’s weren’t notified that the home had a certain reputation for being hit. 10News reached out to the homeowner, who says that information was also not disclosed to him before he purchased the house this year. The City of San Diego tells 10News it is aware of the history of the intersection. Over the years, many cars have slammed into the house on Nimitz Blvd, sometimes resulting in serious injuries to the occupants in the home.A City spokesperson said upgrades to improve safety have been made, based on studies and evaluations by the City’s traffic engineering division.The following statement from the City of San Diego outlines the safety upgrades:“In the recent history, the City has evaluated the area and updated the intersection to include guardrails, a flashing beacon with a “curve” warning sign and a dedicated bike lane. The approaching lanes have been reduced from to one lane from two lanes and the signal at the approaching intersection has been modified to remain red between midnight and 4 a.m. to direct vehicles to stop before the intersection –- In other words the light remains red during the hours of 12 a.m. to 4 a.m. until a vehicle is detected.”But, the Cohen family said these changes are clearly not working.“It might not hit the house as much as it could, but it still does, which it shouldn’t at all,” said McKensey Cohen, whose bedroom was hit by a car in October. “Since then we've just been on edge about everything. We can hear the street for miles.”The family said they have contacted the City’s code enforcement department to come check the stability of the home, specifically McKensey’s bedroom, but they have not received a visit.The family hoped to move out the day of the last crash, but they had to postpone the move.
