The National Rifle Association will host its annual convention this weekend, and on the first day of the convention, firearms will be barred from entering the Dallas facility hosting the NRA. According to a bulletin from the United States Secret Service, firearms, along with knives, laser pointers and a variety of other items will be banned from the facility. The Harvard Global Health Institute released an interactive map in July that shows the risk of contracting the coronavirus based on daily new cases per 100,000 people. At the time the map was released, three states were in the red. As of Monday, that number has since increased to 13.According to Harvard, the 13 states represent ones where full stay-at-home orders are necessary, while an additional 23 should consider them.The map has four colors – green, yellow, orange and red – to demonstrate the risk by county and state. The messages that enter Shane McDaniel's Facebook inbox are more than messages, they are hopes and prayers.“Shane, I am a Marine Corps veteran and my wife is disabled," one message read.“I worry about my father who has been battling stage 4 cancer," read another.McDaniel and his family try to answer those messages with each piece of wood they toss into a towering pile in Lake Stevens, Washington.“Get my eight kids together and split as much wood as we can," McDaniel explained of his efforts.The family chops, splits, and cuts wood throughout the year, but it's when the temperature drops that he receives countless messages on Facebook from people struggling and looking for a way to stay warm."It’s a lot of messages from people that are just in despair," he said.McDaniel’s drive to donate started three years ago, when he says during a scuba diving lesson, he nearly drowned.“Drowning changes your perspective on what you even own, what you spend your time doing, and I just wanted to make a positive impact,” he said.Each winter since, McDaniel has given firewood to those facing challenges."Our propane bill was almost 0 a month," said Sarah DeRemer, a single mom working multiple jobs.McDaniel brought her firewood last year in an effort to help.“I don’t get handouts. The Idaho Lottery launched what’s being billed as “a first of its kind” Scratch Game Wednesday, by introducing a clear plastic scratch ticket. The new game, called “Cash Getaway,” is 100% recyclable, Lottery officials said. “The Idaho Lottery has a long history of being on the forefront of cutting-edge technology,” said Lottery Director Jeff Anderson. “Idaho is a unique geographic marketplace that is ideal for trying new products and new innovations that will eventually lead to introduction in other jurisdictions around the country.”Players can actually see through the ticket. In the clear play game, located on the top half of the ticket, players scratch and reveal a unique code for use with their mobile device or PC.  The bottom half of the ticket plays like a traditional Scratch ticket.  Players without access to a mobile device or a computer can still play the new game.
