It's one of the most frightening new scams to hit in 2018: the porn blackmail scam, or "sextortion" scam. One woman was just targeted and is sharing her story so others don't end up horrified as she was, or worse, losing hundreds of dollars.Linda Wihl is one of the kindest, most clean-living women you'll ever meet. She teaches inner-city children to read through a nonprofit group she started called "Making Sense of Language Arts."  She has a wall full or honors and awards for helping so many children. So you can imagine her surprise when she received an email accusing her of watching porn."They were asking for money to keep quiet, or said they would show pictures of me performing. you know, sex acts." Wihl said.Frightening email says it has goods on youThe email claimed a malware program installed on her laptop caught her visiting porn sites and had a picture of her watching porn taken with her laptop's camera. Her first reaction?"It was bull, for one, because it's not something I do," she said. However, the emailer knew one of her passwords, so she was worried.Wihl's biggest fear wasn't that someone saw her doing something private. It was that a hacker had gotten into her computer, where he could have accessed all sorts of personal information."You don't know who has access and who can use your computer," she said.Fortunately, the security site Krebs on Security says this is just a scam that uses a password stolen from a data breach, possibly the 2012 LinkedIn breach.Wihl didn't send money; she knew the hackers didn't really have anything with which to embarrass her. If you're not quite as saintly as she is, however, you just might fall for it -- especially if you have ever looked at X-rated material on your computer. As always, delete your browser history and don't waste your money.____________________"Don't Waste Your Money" is a registered trademark of Scripps Media, Inc. It may be a job most people do not think about regularly, but one man in Nashville, Tennessee is being honored for his efforts to do it well: Herman Patton is a greeter for Alamo Rental Car.Patton des his part in a huge piece of Nashville's tourism economy, which raked in more than billion last year.According to the Nashville Convention and Visitor’s Corp, most of the 14 million people who visited the city last year said they would come back to Nashville.Nashville is at the top of friendly city lists across the world, and the Convention and Visitor’s Corp is saying thank you to the city's hospitality workers who make that happen with an honor called the Hitmaker Award. 693

Instagram is continuing its efforts to combat bullying on the platform. On Tuesday, the company said it is starting to use new machine learning technology to proactively detect bullying in photos and captions. Those posts will be sent to Instagram's Community Operations team for human review."Online bullying is complex, and we know we have more work to do to further limit bullying and spread kindness on Instagram," Adam Mosseri, the new head of Instagram, said in a blog post.Mosseri was named Instagram's chief last week following the exit of co-founders Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger. This is Mosseri's first announcement in his new role.An Instagram spokesperson said the technology can detect bullying and harassment such as attacks on a person's appearance or character and threats to someone's wellbeing or health. For example, the tech can identify bullying tactics such as comparing, ranking and rating images and captions, such as a split-screen image in which a person is compared to someone else in a negative way. It's unclear what else the technology can detect and whether it would work on images without captions. This feature has started to roll out and will continue to in the coming weeks. The company, owned by Facebook, is also launching a "Kindness Camera Effect" in partnership with dancer Maddie Ziegler. Anyone who follows Ziegler will have the camera effect automatically. In selfie mode, hearts will appear on the screen. In rear mode, kind comments in different languages will appear. You can tag friends, too.Earlier this year, Instagram announced it would filter out bullying comments that aim to harass or upset users. That feature built on a tool introduced last year that blocks offensive comments, and a filter that removes spam in comments. Starting Tuesday, the bullying comment filter will also apply to Live Videos on Instagram.Users can also turn off comments on individual Instagram posts and block posts with certain keywords. 1975

It appears another week on Capitol Hill will come to a close without any sort of agreement on another stimulus plan. The US Senate adjourned on Thursday for the weekend, and won't resume until Monday. While Congressional Democrats, Senate Republicans and the White House are largely in agreement on the need for a stimulus, agreeing to a framework remains in question. The two sides are at odds over how much of unemployment should be supplemented by the federal government. There is also a debate on offering businesses liability protection from coronavirus-related lawsuits. On Thursday, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Democrats won’t back down from their request to have a 0 weekly unemployment supplement.“We're not having a short-term extension... We have said that we're going to have the 0,” Pelosi said. But what about criticism from Republicans that a 0 a week supplement to unemployment is more lucrative than working?“There are all kinds of reasons that weigh in on this pandemic,” Pelosi said. “People have to stay home if their children are not able to go to school or if they don't have childcare. There are a number of reasons. But none of them is 'I want to stay home because I make more money this way than other', maybe some of these employers could pay their workers more."Meanwhile at the White House, President Donald Trump said he is ready to take action on a few items via executive order if need be. With a federal student loan freeze set to lift in eight weeks, and eviction protection ending last week, Trump tweeted, “I’ve notified my staff to continue working on an Executive Order with respect to Payroll Tax Cut, Eviction Protections, Unemployment Extensions, and Student Loan Repayment Options” 1740

It's that time again when there's speculation that Idris Elba might be cast as James Bond. For years, this has been a request (and by "request," we mean "demand") of many who could totally see the "Luther" star slipping into a tuxedo to play everyone's favorite spy. This time, a report from UK publication The Daily Star?has stirred excitement. In it, director Antoine Fuqua says that Bond producer Barbara Broccoli believes it's time to bring some diversity to the role and has left the door open for Elba to potentially succeed the current 007, Daniel Craig.Mind you, no one has confirmed this publicly as of yet and CNN has reached out to reps for Elba and Broccoli. When asked about the reported comments, a spokesperson for Fuqua told CNN, "This is not accurate."But already Twitter is excited about the possibility, naturally. The 45-year-old Elba has also been endorsed by a former 007.Actor Pierce Brosnan told the Radio Times back in 2015 he thought Elba would make a good Bond (though in June 2018, he threw his support behind Tom Hardy as the next spy who loves us.)For his part, Elba told CNN in 2014 that he would love to play the role."It would be such an honor," he said. "I mean what do we have to do here? We have to wear beautiful suits, drive nice cars, chase bad guys and date beautiful women? I dunno, sounds good to me." 1372
