Because of that rule, women's lacrosse players don't wear helmets.But Comstock and fellow professor Sarah Fields found that rule isn't keeping female players from getting hurt.“What we found was 72.7% of all of the concussions among girls high school lacrosse players resulted from being struck by a stick or a ball," said Comstock.Almost three quarters of concussions among women's players have nothing to do with player-to-player contact.The researchers estimated that by requiring them to wear helmets, they could reduce the total concussions in the sport by 45%“61.5% of the concussions that resulted from being hit by the stick or the ball in girls lacrosse players could have been prevented if they had been wearing the same helmet the hard shell helmet with the full facemask that boys lacrosse players are required to wear,” said Comstock.US Lacrosse says it has a helmet designed for women’s lacrosse and is testing it in Florida“In terms of the rate of head injuries caused by stick and ball, some concussive, some other, we agree it was notable. And that’s why we led the development of the ASTM head gear back in 2008,” said Carpenetti.The helmet is softer and has less coverage than the male helmet, and right now it’s optional in all states except Florida. Depending on the results of an ongoing study of it’s effectiveness it could be rolled out across the country.But for Fields and Comstock, that rollout is inching along at a painful rate."Sport culture, loves to move at a glacial pace, I mean we're still arguing about designated hitters in baseball. Former Trump campaign adviser Roger Stone told associates he was in contact with WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange in 2016, according to a new report by The Washington Post, which cites two sources.An unnamed source told the Post that Stone had a phone conversation with Assange in the spring of 2016. Rick Scott signed Senate Bill 7026 into law Friday, the first gun control legislation enacted in the state after the Parkland school massacre on February 14.The new law, known as the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Public Safety Act, tightens gun control in several ways but also allows some teachers to be armed."The hardest thing I've ever had to do as governor is try to console a parent who has lost a child," said Scott, surrounded by families of the victims. FLORIDA — Police say former Buffalo Bills and Miami Dolphins player Richie Incognito was involved in a disturbance at a Lifetime Gym in Boca Raton, Florida on Wednesday morning.Police said Incognito was involuntarily committed under Florida's Baker Act. The act allows officials to apprehend and order a mental evaluation of a person.Incognito reportedly threw a dumbbell at a man at the gym and that's why police were called, according to TMZ.com.Incognito played for the Buffalo last season. In the buildup to the draft, he took a restructured contract with the Bills, publicly fired his agent on Twitter after that deal was signed, and retired shortly after that. The Bills officially added him to the reserve/retired list on April 12.Once Organized Team Activities started around the league, Incognito -- according to ESPN -- wanted to make a return to the NFL, despite retiring from the league and team just one month prior. The Bills granted his reported wish, releasing him off the reserve/retired list on Monday.The move officially made Incognito an unrestricted free agent, able to be signed by any other team.
