SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Two people were found dead Sunday morning after authorities responded to multiple 911 calls of a capsized boat off the coast of Ocean Beach.Authorities received a call about the incident around 3:30 a.m. When they arrived, authorities found a 28-foot vessel overturned along the shore with two mean deceased nearby."About a 28 foot vessel overturned in the shore, on the sand," says SD Fire & Rescue Lt. Maureen Hodges. "We do have two victims that were down on the sand."The incident happened shortly after 3:30 Sunday morning. Customs and Border Protection officers told ABC 10News the boat capsized off the shore, throwing the two people into the water. There's still no word on if any other people were in the boat.Border Patrol also responded to the incident along with San Diego Police, lifeguards, and San Diego Fire-Rescue. CBP believes this is the latest incident to involve a human-smuggling effort gone horribly wrong.So far in the 2020 Fiscal Year, there have been 210 incidents involving these kind of "panga" boats off the coast of San Diego. The record was set in 2013, when CBP responded to 243 such incidents. With two months left in the fiscal year, 2020 is on pace to break the record.ABC 10News asked if the rise in panga boat incidents could be related to border closures because of the coronavirus, forcing would-be smugglers to turn to the water. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - U.S. Coast Guard crew members rescued seven people off the coast of La Jolla from a sinking yacht Friday. The vessel began taking on water Friday morning when the call for help came in. Coast Guard, San Diego Lifeguards, and U.S. Navy members all responded."You have to be pretty Johnny-on-the-spot whenever you're hovering over a boat like that," pilot Treston Taylor said. "Especially lowering and hoisting people up and down."A water pump was also lowered to the sinking ship to help buy crews time."For those people on that vessel, they were very excited. Their adrenaline was pumping," Lyman Dickson, the Coast Guard swimmer lowered to the yacht, said. "It's a very intense situation for them."No injuries were reported during the rescue. 795

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) A San Diego Police officer was hit in the head with a cane and several officers punched during a protest following the shooting of a man in Wisconsin Sunday evening.Police say a group of roughly 50 demonstrators gathered at police headquarters, blocking entrance and exit driveways.Police say protesters blocked the entrance and exit of the station and as officers moved forward to clear the area, an officer was hit in the head with a cane and several officers were punched.RELATED: Protests take place in Kenosha, Wisconsin after man shot by policeThe department says one arrest was made for the assault on the officer with a cane and two arrests were made for resisting and obstructing the officers.The incident comes after Jacob Blake was shot by police in Kenosha, Wisconsin over the weekend.According to police, Blake is in serious condition following the shooting. 896

San Diego (KGTV)- A music teacher at Grossmont High School reached out to the community after students were in need of guitars for the upcoming school year. The students will be practicing distance learning.Music teacher Jeremy Cook says the support has been overwhelming.“The response from the community has been absolutely amazing. I’ve met so many people. I’ve driven across the county picking up the guitars,” says Cooke.Cooke has received 117 guitars for students to practice.“Last year we had upwards of 120 guitar students total,” says Cooke. “There’s a hope to be able to offer guitars to students who aren’t able to take the class.”A couple of weeks ago, Cooke went to pick up a donation from a woman named Pam Anderson in Mission Hills.“I took it back to my car and popped it open. I was flabbergasted at what was inside. It was a 1969 Fender Telecaster.”These guitars range from ,000 to ,000. Cooke says he had to let Anderson know its value.“She said that she appreciated the honesty, and she still wanted to donate the guitar to the school,” says Cooke. “It was her husband’s who passed away. She said she knew he would want the same thing.”The guitar will be used for student performances and in the newly renovated music room when students are allowed back on campus.Cooke says he appreciates all of the donations. As a thank you to Anderson, the teacher has set up a GoFund Me page to help her during the pandemic.Cooke says there is still a need for guitars for the upcoming school year.
