SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A man caught on video peering into a Pacific Beach home has neighbors on edge.The woman, who did not want to be identified, said she was woken up by the sound of police officers knocking on her door in the area of Mission Blvd. and Emerald St. early Tuesday.Officers told her that her neighbor was alerted to an individual in the alley between their residences by his security camera. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A new California law aims to help thousands of low-income Californians gain access to fresh and healthy food.Seniors in California who receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits will also be able to apply for CalFresh food benefits, formerly known as food stamps.SSI recipients are either over age 65, disabled, or blind. Up until recently, they couldn't apply for CalFresh benefits because they receive money for food in their check; however, it's just a month. "One of the challenges seniors face is the high cost of living, we can hardly make it with what we get," said Gwendolyn Joseph, a San Diegan who lives on a fixed income.Joseph just turned 76 and can finally apply for CalFresh benefits, despite receiving SSI benefits. The average CalFresh recipient receives 0 per month to purchase food."We are striving so hard in California to restore these kinds of safety net programs to our most vulnerable Californians, look around this room, these are people who've worked their entire lives, they deserve it, they've earned it, and they need our support now," said Senator Toni Atkins, who represents California Senate District 39.Feeding San Diego, in partnership with Serving Seniors, 211 San Diego, and the County of San Diego Health and Human Services, is working to spread the word and encourage SSI recipients to apply for CalFresh benefits. "The nutritional gap that we're seeing in San Diego in terms of people having calories to eat, but not having healthy and nutritious foods to eat, is a real serious and growing problem, and it impacts seniors disproportionately," said Vince Hall, CEO of Feeding San Diego. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A Linda Vista grandfather is missing a pricey, sentimental piece of jewelry after trying to help out some strangers.Steve Phakdy says his 71-year-old father was attending an event at a Buddhist temple in Chollas View more than a week ago, when a white Chevy Tahoe pulled up. "Flagging him down, saying, 'Hello mister.' The husband says, 'It's my wife's birthday. Can you give her a blessing?'" said Phakdy.Phakdy says his father did something to acknowledge the birthday. A woman in her 30s then got out of the SUV."She hugs my dad," said Phakdy. In the backseat was a baby in a car seat."The husband gets out and says, 'We have some jewelry to give you or show you,'" said Phakdy.Together, the two placed rings on his hands, wrapping necklaces around his neck and arms."The husband was grabbing his wrist. Turning it around doing this and doing that," said Phakdy.His father offered to pay for the jewelry, but the couple quickly drove off. "Was looking at the bracelet they gave him and hey, wait, where's my bracelet?" said Phakdy.Gone was a 24-karat-gold-and-diamond bracelet, an anniversary gift from his wife. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A random act of kindness at a Rancho Bernardo grocery store has a grateful grandma paying it forward. Kathy Yezarski went to the Albertsons at Rancho Bernardo and Poway Roads Friday night to buy milk and cereal for her grandchildren, who were staying at her home. She was about to pay for her groceries when she noticed a problem. “When I got to the checkout I was really embarrassed to see that I didn’t have my wallet,” Yezarski said. Yezarski thought she’d have to leave the items behind and return home when “a very kind young man” noticed her dilemma. “The man behind me very quickly said ‘I’ve got this,’” Yezarski said. Yezarski was mortified she had forgotten her wallet. “It was really touching to me…heartwarming that he would do that for someone.” Yezarski was so moved, she posted about the kind act on the Nextdoor app for her neighborhood. She was hoping the young man would see the post but she wasn’t expecting the reaction she received. “I didn’t realize when I posted until after I posted that two previous posts had been about recent shootings, and I think people were just reeling from that, feeling so upset and I think they needed to hear something positive. A lot of people said that: thank you for restoring my faith in humanity,” Yezarski said. She was inspired to perform a kind act of her own. “Beyond just thanking him, I thought - I’ve got to pay this forward. I went on the website for the San Diego Food Bank and donated. I thought, wow, I can’t just let this stop here, I can’t. I need to do that, he triggered this desire in me to pay this forward.” Yezarski hopes the young man realizes the power of his generosity. “I would want to tell him ‘you’re awesome’, you are just an amazing person and just thank you because you started something that really touched a lot of people,” she said. 1848

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A man was arrested Tuesday night following a chase that injured one woman.According to San Diego Police, officers noticed that the man’s headlights were out and tried to pull him over near Nimitz Boulevard and Rosecrans Street around 8:22 p.m.The man then reportedly took off, striking two cars along the way. The pursuit then led officers onto Interstate 5 where the suspect struck the back of an SUV, injuring a woman inside.Officers were able to take the man into custody after he tried to cross I-5 and run down a steep embankment.The severity of the woman’s injuries are unclear. 612
