INDIANAPOLIS -- A second threat was made to Noblesville High School in addition to the active shooter at Noblesville West Middle School, police confirmed Friday.Noblesville Police Chief Kevin Jowitt confirmed the threat to the high school at an 11 a.m. press conference on the situation at the middle school.MAIN STORY | Two shot at Noblesville West Middle School“We’re also aware of a secondary threat that has been made to Noblesville High School," Jowitt said. "We have multiple officers and a command post established at Noblesville High School there who are diligently ensuring the safety of students and staff there. As of 11:30 a.m., police said they had the suspected shooter, a student at the school, in custody.The adult victim of that shooting was transported to IU Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. The juvenile was taken to Riley Hospital for Children. INDIANAPOLIS — Multiple people were treated for injuries after being stabbed near public library in downtown Indianapolis.Police were called to the scene on East St. Clair Street around 4:30 p.m. local time Saturday.According to Indianapolis Fire Department PIO Rita Reith, the attack started in the American Legion Mall and spilled over across the street into the entrance way of the public library. Four people were taken to the hospital to be treated for stab wounds - including the suspect. Reith says two of the victims are in critical conditions. The other two suffered serious injuries. None of them are believed to be life-threatening injuries. Witnesses say the person responsible for the stabbing rode into the park on his bike and was playing loud noises on a megaphone. When people asked him to turn it off and stop he pulled out a knife and started stabbing. Reith said the suspected will remain in police custody while he is treated at the hospital. No identities have been released. The incident remains under investigation by the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department. 1128

INDIANAPOLIS — It has been quite a journey for Kari Wegg.She had been working tirelessly as a NICU nurse at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis for more than 25 years when she found herself fighting for her own life with COVID-19 in that very same hospital.“It’s devastating. I never thought something like this could happen to me,” Wegg said. “It’s been so hard because I was healthy, and I thought if I ever got it, I would be fine.”Wegg first got sick in June and diagnosed with pneumonia. Then in July, she, her husband and two children tested positive for the coronavirus.“I do work in a hospital,” she said. “My husband also works in a hospital. It’s very possible we got it from the hospital.”Her family had mild symptoms and recovered quickly. However, Wegg did not.“It’s been since July since I’ve seen my boys., and I haven’t been able to hug them or love on them, and they miss me so much,” Wegg said.Wegg was put on a heart and lung bypass machine on Aug. 19. She says her doctors discussed removing care.“Their dad had to sit down and tell them their mother might die, and they’ve had to try and cope with that,” she said.But Wegg says her husband wouldn’t give up. Calls were made, and she was transferred to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago on Sept. 5 for a double lung transplant.Northwestern was the first hospital in the country to perform a double lung transplant on a COVID-19 paitnet, and Wegg was only the sixth such patient to undergo the surgery.“I am eternally grateful to the family of my donors,” Wegg said. “I don’t know anything about them or how they died but they gave me the gift of life.”Grateful to be alive, but devastated financially with non-stop medical bills, she suffers in her bed, while her fellow healthcare workers continue the fight. Wegg says she even has coworkers who have died of the virus.Wegg says she's praying that more people take the virus seriously."I’m hoping my message as a nurse who didn’t expect any of this can get out there and bring it home to people who don’t necessarily want to wear a mask or want to isolate themselves or quarantine," Wegg said. But in an unexpected twist, the couple and the homeless man are charged with making up the story in a scheme to get money.“[This] highlights the promise and the peril of these sites,” says Anna Laitin, with Consumer Reports. “These incredible stories come out; people really touched by this and obviously wanted to help, wanted to give money. Now it's not clear the story was true.”The website GoFraudMe tracks scams on personal crowdfunding sites and has found more than 200 cases in the past five years.Consumer Reports admits it can be a challenge to know if you're giving to a legitimate cause.“It’s really hard. You really have to read carefully and think,” Laitin says. “And maybe give to ones where you know the person personally or you know somebody who can vouch for it, because otherwise you can get caught up especially in these viral ones.”Also, pay attention to how much money is needed and how much has already been donated.
