As hundreds of students from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School prepare to board buses to lobby lawmakers to demand gun control, a measure was struck down on Tuesday by the Republican-held Florida House that would ban assault weapons. The motion was denied by a whopping 71-36 tally. Tuesday's vote came six days after a confessed gunman killed 17 lives at the Parkland, Florida high school. Many of the 3,000 students of the high school have since been vocal in their opposition to status quo gun laws, with the hope of increasing restrictions to posses firearms. The accused gunman, Nikolas Cruz, used an AR-15 type weapon during his massacre, which only lasted several minutes before he tried to blend in with students escaping the school. According to the Associated Press, the bill will likely no longer be considered during this session of the legislature.  898

American Airlines says it is suspending travel to 15 small cities across the country for at least a month as COVID-19 continues to wreak havoc on the airline travel industry.In a press release, American said it was suspending service to certain smaller markets as airline stimulus aid provided by the CARES Act is set to expire.American says the suspended travel is only effective between Oct. 7 and Nov. 3, but offered no guarantees that it would restore service to the cities afterward.Since the COVID-19 pandemic reached the United States, demand for air travel has plummeted. The Associated Press reported earlier this week that air travel is down more than 85% between 2019 and 2020. ARVADA, Colo. — At 90 years old, Ken Felts is writing about his old life and is now living his new one."There's myself Ken, who's a straight man and then my inner self Larry, who is a gay man," Felts said.Felts has hidden that part of himself from the world his whole life."I was doing my best to be straight and I thought I was, it's just not possible unless you really are," he said.Felts recently wrote a message on Facebook to friends and family."The message was: I am out, I am gay, I am free," Felts said of the post.It was a weight lifted off his shoulders. Since the age of 12, he's kept his sexuality hidden. In his 20s, Felts had a secret relationship with a man named Phillip."I had this terrible dichotomy of what's right and what's wrong," Felts said.After nine months, Felts skipped town, leaving Phillip behind. Felts would go on to have a family, becoming a husband, father, and grandfather.After being divorced for 40 years, Felts continued to search for Phillip. An investigator even reached out offering to help find Phillip after his coming out.On Thursday night, Felts found out Phillip died two years ago."I'm sorry I waited so long.
