Kentucky and Nevada both announced the first coronavirus-related deaths in their state on Monday.Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear said Monday morning that a 66-year-old man from Bourbon County had died. The governor cited "numerous factors" with the man's death in addition to COIVD-19.The total number of cases of COVID-19 in the commonwealth remained at 21. More than 3,000 people are confirmed to have contracted the virus in the United States, and at least 69 people have died.Kentucky is the 12th state to announce a fatality linked to the coronavirus. The Pentagon is currently holding a press briefing. See the video below."This is our duty as Kentuckians, this is our patriotic duty," he said of protecting one another through proper hygiene and social distancing. They also were pushing new hashtags for use on social media: #TeamKentucky #TogetherKY."I know that there is anxiety out there" Beshear said. "I know a lot of it is spread through social media."Also on Monday, the Southern Nevada Health District said a man in his 60s with underlying health issues had died of COVID-19.“We must continue to emphasize how important it is to protect those who are most vulnerable to the impacts of the virus and urge our community to support the public health measures and recommendations that are in place,” said Dr. Fermin Leguen, Acting Chief Health Officer of the Southern Nevada Health District..The announcements came the day after Oregon announced its first death linked to the coronavirus pandemic. In Kentucky, bourbon is more than just big business, it’s part of the culture, influencing everything from the arts to the economy. Tourists Anna and Michael Kraczyk says their love of bourbon brought them to Bourbon Country. They're just two of the million-plus people expected to visit Kentucky this year, specifically for the bourbon experience. The Kraczyks say they plan on spending a lot of money during their time in the Bluegrass State. “A couple of thousand,” Anna says. “Yeah, a couple of thousand. It’s a great investment.” In Kentucky, bourbon production has increased 115 percent since 2009 and has grown to a multi-billion dollar industry. “When people come to town and visit us, they don’t just visit this location,” says Jeff Crowe of Heaven Hill Distillery. “They have a place to overnight accommodate, or they have to have a place to eat breakfast or diner or have another cocktail with their family in the evening.”Crowe says this American-made, barrel-aged spirit has created international interest, and believes the bourbon boom will continue to grow. “I think that explosion is now where near close to the final stages,” he says. “We’re excited about the future.” Now, there’s a new player in the market trying to cash in with new product. Kartik Kamat is making gin out of Kentucky-grown corn, mixing the flavors of his Indian heritage with his American upbringing to create Holi Gin. “I wanted to solve something in the distilled spirit industry,” Kamat says. Released in September, Holi Gin has been well received, medaling at competitions. Now, the product is available at some of the biggest spirit stores in the country.“We are our distributor’s fasting-selling gin,” Kamat says. “But it took us a long time to understand that we even had a product to get it over here.” This product, however, represents something much more than liquor. It’s the story of an immigrant living the American dream and perhaps putting Kentucky on the map for something more than bourbon. 2008

It had been more than two weeks that she had been lost in a thick Hawaiian forest, and Amanda Eller was at an end.The 35-year-old doctor of physical therapy was at a place where she could no longer go forward because of the terrain. With a fractured leg and no shoes, she sure wasn't going to go back. The area she found herself in had little to no food. She stayed there for a day and a half and, as Eller's mother and a friend told reporters Saturday as they detailed the rescued woman's ordeal, she began to resign herself to the dire possibility that she might die there."It came down to life and death -- and I had to choose. I chose life. I wasn't going to take the easy way out. Even though that meant more suffering in me for myself," Eller 760

In a world suffering a pandemic, cash is no longer king. A growing number of businesses and individuals worldwide have stopped using banknotes in fear that physical currency, handled by tens of thousands of people over their useful life, could be a vector for the spreading the coronavirus. While public officials and health experts have said that the risk to transfer the virus person-to-person through the use of banknotes is small, it has not stopped businesses from refusing to accept currency and some countries from urging their citizens to stop using banknotes altogether. 592
