NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Metro Police have identified the six officers who first responded to the scene of the downtown explosion Christmas morning. City officials say these officers showed up to a "shots fired" call on 2nd Avenue around 5:30 a.m. Upon arrival, an RV on the street played a recording and countdown, saying the vehicle contained a bomb and warning everyone to leave the area. The officers helped several people evacuate before the RV exploded shortly after, around 6:30 a.m."They immediately began knocking on doors, not knowing when the bomb would go off," Chief John Drake said at a press conference Saturday night. "They didn't think of themselves...they thought of the citizens of Nashville. They saved lives today, and their heroism should be noted." More than a year after he died in police custody with cameras from the reality show "Live PD" on the scene, body camera footage and police records show that a Texas man told police multiple times that he couldn't breathe and was suffering from a heart condition as police took him into custody.According to KVUE-TV in Austin, Texas and the Austin American-Statesman, 40-year-old Javier Ambler died in police custody on March 28, 2019. Ambler had led police and Live PD camera operators on a 22-minute car chase that began when he allegedly failed to dim his headlights to oncoming traffic.Body camera footage from Ambler's arrest shows that police used stun guns three times while taking him into custody, even after he told police he was suffering from congestive heart failure.According to KVUE, an autopsy listed Ambler's death a homicide, which was later determined to be a "justifiable homicide." Medical examiners said Ambler's heart condition and his weight "in combination with forcible restraint" led to his death. Examiners also said Ambler was under the influence of drugs and alcohol at the time of his death.KVUE reports that the most serious charge Ambler would have faced was evading arrest, a low-level felony.The District Attorney's Office in Travis County told KVUE that they have been investigating Ambler's death but says they've been hindered by a lack of cooperation from the Williamson County Sheriff's Office. Officials also say that Live PD has failed to share their footage from the arrest with investigators.Travis County District Attorney Margaret Moore told KVUE that she feels that Live PD's participation with the Williamson County Sheriff's Office led to Ambler's death.“It is of very serious concern to any of us who are in law enforcement that the decision to engage in that chase was driven by more of a need to provide entertainment than to keep Williamson County citizens safe,” she said.Moore told KVUE that she plans to take the case before a Grand Jury later this year. 2017

MILWAUKEE -- A Milwaukee family is devastated by the sudden loss of a young man. 21-year-old Nasir Matthews collapsed and died Tuesday while playing pick-up basketball. Terrell Matthews was there as his cousin and best friend fell to the ground after a game."The second game ended, he went over to the fan, leaned over for a second and he just went out," Matthews said. "Everything started happening so fast."Matthews said at first, everyone thought he was joking around. "After about 30 seconds they all started to see his eyes were just a blank stare," Matthews said.Matthews called 911 as others tried to revive him with a defibrillator at the school. Despite their efforts, Matthews was pronounced dead a short time later."At this point, we don't know why he fell out," said Matthews' aunt Camille Rose. "He didn't have any known medical condition other than an enlarged heart." Rose said this brings another round of grieving for Matthews' younger siblings who can't seem to catch a break. "The kids were all trying to deal with the loss of their mother, their grandmother and basically their father," Rose said.  Through the tears, Matthews looks back at the memories he shared with his cousin. "He was always happy, even through what he's been through," Matthews said.  The tragedy serves as a painful reminder to never take a loved one for granted, no matter their age. Matthews' family is still waiting on autopsy results to find out exactly why he died.  1522

Nearly 800 nurses were on a picket line Tuesday in Pennsylvania. The nurses work at St. Mary Medical Center in Langhorne, near Philadelphia, and they say they are walking off the job to fight for their patients.At issue is the hospital’s contract with the nurse’s union. The nurses want a new contract with higher wages and safeguards for patient safety.The nurses say they are caring for more patients during the coronavirus pandemic than they should, and that is putting patients at risk.“Safe staffing is the main issue in our negotiation--it's why we organized last year in the first place,” says Kathy McKamey R.N., who works on St Mary's MG2 unit and has been at the hospital for 10 years, said in a statement provided by the union.The hospital’s owner, Trinity Health, said the union rejected a contract last week that included higher wages.Hospitals in the Philadelphia area told the Philadelphia Inquirer that they would hire replacement nurses to work if the union goes on strike."We respect the union members’ right to strike, and we remain committed to negotiating in good faith to reach agreement on a fair, consistent and sustainable initial contract for St. Mary nurses. We look forward to the day productive negotiations can resume," said a statement from Trinity Health.The nurses say their strike will continue Wednesday if necessary. 1360

MILWAUKEE (AP) — The Milwaukee Brewers say a man illegally entered Miller Park and caused minor damage to the playing field Tuesday morning. Brewers officials say he was apprehended by law enforcement shortly after gaining access to the field. According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Keyon A. Lambert attempted to write his name in cursive on the field with a stolen tractor, causing ,000 in damages.Milwaukee police say Lambert was arrested and that the incident occurred shortly after 7:30 a.m. Police say criminal charges will soon be referred to the Milwaukee County District Attorney's Office. 614
