SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — If you’re still holding on to a mail-in ballot, return it using a method other than the U.S. Postal Service at this point.That’s the recommendation from many election experts after a ruling this week by the U.S. Supreme Court.In California, mail-in ballots have to be postmarked on or before November 3, but they can be received by county officials up to 17 days late and still count. That’s one of the most generous buffers of any state.But in about 30 states, the deadline for receipt is November 3. An analysis by the Wall Street Journal found it took an average of 10 days for a piece of first class mail to reach its destination in Wisconsin.But the Supreme Court ruled Monday 5-3 that state lawmakers should have the final say on this question, not the federal courts.“That could have tremendous implications across the country because it suggests that the Supreme Court is going to defer to even strict rules that could have the effect of limiting the counting of certain ballots,” said legal analyst Dan Eaton.Wisconsin is one of about 30 states with this deadline that ballots have to be received by Election Day, along with Pennsylvania and Michigan; two states with similar cases still pending.Voters in those states are being urged to drop off ballots at official collection sites, not at the post office, or vote in person.“This ruling does put pressure on people to make sure that their ballot is received in time,” Eaton said.Eaton said concurrence opinions by Justices Brett Kavanaugh and Neil Gorsuch offer clues about how the high court could rule in other election-legal fights, particularly when Amy Coney Barrett joins the court. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — It may sound like a scene out of "Jurassic Park," but you'll soon be able to check out more than 70 life-like dinosaurs from your car at the Del Mar Fairgrounds.Jurassic Quest Drive-Thru is bringing back the popular event with a twist, introducing visitors to a drive-thru display of animatronic dinos at the fairgrounds from Jan. 1 to 10 next year.From their vehicles, guests will experience the massive models — from a Tyrannosaurus rex to Triceratops to 50-foot Megalodon — roaring and moving in realistic displays as they drive through the tour. An audio tour guide will lead guests through the hour-long tour.Organizers say attendees will have limited contact, if any, with staff on-site, and that state and local coronavirus precautions will be taken.Tickets start at per vehicle, with the option for "dinosaur surprise" add-ons. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — If you're trying to find a precious ticket to San Diego Comic-Con this summer, watch out for villainous scammers scalping fake badges.The Better Business Bureau has issued a warning that third-party sellers may sell fake badges."For consecutive years now, Comic-Con International has sold out in record time and obtaining a badge has become strenuous," the BBB writes. "One of the most pervasive scams BBB has found over the years is the reselling scam in which a scammer claims they bought a badge but can no longer attend the convention."MAP: Where to find you favorite Comic-Con exhibitsScammers may offer their fake badge, tricking customers into thinking they can change the name on their badge to theirs. But they can't and Comic-Con doesn't allow legitimate badge holders to do so."A key factor for consumers to remember is Comic-Con provides a refund at the buyer’s request, making it unnecessary to resell a ticket," BBB adds.The BBB says another common scam with SDCC badges is scammers sell "extra tickets." Comic-Con badgeholders are limited to one ticket each, so third-party sellers can't have extra badges to sell. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Local nurses are rallying for more protective equipment at our hospitals. 10News spoke with healthcare workers treating patients with coronavirus who say they're terrified for their own safety. ICU nurse, Michael Kennedy, describes what it's like on the front lines of Covid-19 at UCSD Medical Center in Hillcrest. "As you can imagine it is kind of chaotic," said Kennedy. "We're basically having to beg for masks."He, like many other health care workers, is raising a sobering flag, saying they do not have enough face masks to protect themselves. Kennedy says they've been instructed to wear bandanas instead. USCD nurses held a rally to fight back against the shortage Friday morning. "We’re already rationing supplies and we are not getting the kind of transparency we need from UCSD, from state and local officials about what we have."It's a problem reported nationwide. The demand for personal protective equipment is soaring past supply. Here in San Diego, 10News has covered stories of the community coming together to fix that problem by donating supplies and even sewing together homemade masks. County Supervisor Greg Cox acknowledged the problem at a press conference Thursday. "We had a problem with the N95 masks that were in short supply," said Cox. Kennedy is now hoping the problem doesn't get even worse. They paid off ,000 in debt and saved ,000 for the down payment.“It’s actually like adjusting in terms of watching television, and they had like the Disney Channel on, and we had to take turns so I could watch the news,” said Jennifer’s father.According to Hot Pads, it takes 28 years for a San Diego renter to save enough to put down 20 percent on a median-priced home.
