(KGTV) -- Police and fire crews responded to the scene of several small brush fires in La Mesa Wednesday night.The fires broke out near several homes along Interstate 8 at Severin Drive near Briercrest Park. (KGTV) - A Lakeside woman who spent ,000 to have solar panels installed on her home is angry about an 8 electric bill from San Diego Gas and Electric.Michaela Wright told 10News her power bill is three times higher than it was at this time last year.“How could I possibly get a bill this high when I bought solar panels,” questioned Wright.Wright called the high bill “price gouging” and said it was "out of hand" with a 26 percent rate hike coming in the next three years. She’s been writing letters to lawmakers and calling the governor to demand action.To make a difference, Wright also wants her East County neighbors to talk part in a walk-out. She would like to see residents leave their homes and stop using power between 4 and 9 p.m., twice a month.“Hit them in the pocketbooks because money talks and when you start losing money they start paying attention. I just feel we have to do something,” Wright said.SDG&E spokesperson Wes Jones wouldn’t comment on the walk-out or talk specifically about Wright’s bill. However, he said SDG&E recommends customers use less energy during peak hours: precisely what Wright is proposing with the walk-out.Jones also suggested Wright check with her solar company.“The solar system is matched to the solar energy you need and should work with your solar provider to see if your system is generating the energy needs that you have,” said Jones.Wright said she has been in touch with her solar company - and now it’s time to turn out the lights and walk out.“I’ve had enough, and the rest of San Diego feels the same… we’ve got to do something,” Wright said. 1646

(KGTV) — Imagine swimming when suddenly hundreds of fins start gliding through the water around you.Local beachgoers may be familiar with the sight, as shown in recently captured drone video in La Jolla. The video shows a mesmerizing view of the massive grouping of leopard sharks, about 4- to 5-foot long, swimming off the coast.Andrew Nosal, a professor and marine biologist at University of San Diego, recorded the video Monday — he also studied the sharks extensively for his dissertation at Scripps Institution of Oceanography.According to Nosal, the gathering, while perhaps intimidating to some, isn't all that rare.RELATED: Killer whale pod preys on dolphins off Southern California coast"Group formation ... is a common behavior for leopard sharks. In La Jolla, these leopard sharks are mostly (over 95%) mature pregnant females," Nosal said. "They appear to be attracted to this site because of its calm, warm water, which we hypothesize speeds up the rate of embryonic development."Leopard sharks give birth every spring after a 10- to 11-month gestation period.The sharks may also be attracted to food in the area, Nosal added, as they feed on squid, octopus, crabs, and small fish in nearby submarine canyons at night.RELATED: Dad captures son wakeboarding with dolphins off San Diego coastAnd while from above the sight of hundreds of sharks may alarm some, leopard sharks aren't considered threatening to humans as long as their space is respected."If a human grabs their tails, for example, the sharks may defend themselves by swinging around and biting the offender," Nosal said. "So, beachgoers should resist the temptation to touch or harass the sharks, which is a bad idea anyway, but also illegal because these sharks are inside a marine protected area."And if one is caught up in the swimming frenzy, there's no need to panic."...Enjoy the experience," Nosal said. LAGUNA HILLS, Calif. (KGTV) - A Camp Pendleton Marine is suspected of shooting and killing his estranged wife at a home in Laguna Hills, Orange County Sheriff's Detectives said Friday.Jerel Boykins, 26, was detained by Marine Corps NCIS on base Thursday afternoon, just hours after deputies found his wife's body.Deputies were conducting a welfare check at the home on Via Lomas in Laguna Hills when they discovered the 23-year-old woman with multiple gunshot wounds.Boykins is being held at the Orange County Jail in lieu of million bail.Anyone with information should call Orange County Crimestoppers at 855-TIP-OCCS.  646
