An Idaho woman reported to the Nampa Police Department Tuesday night that her 6-year-old son had been given a small bag of marijuana while out trick-or-treating.She reported that she had been going through his candy bag and found the small plastic baggie that appeared to contain marijuana. She brought the baggie to the Nampa Police Department and turned it over to officers.   Nampa Police field tested the substance found in the candy bag and it indeed tested “presumptively positive” for marijuana, said Nampa Police Sgt. Tim Riha.“Officers obtained the route that (the child) took while out trick-or-treating. (The child) had been to several houses in that area, but it is unknown which house provided the marijuana to the trick-or-treater,” Riha explained.  The baggie that contained the marijuana will be sent to the lab for fingerprint testing, he added.The incident is still under investigation.  The Nampa Police Department reminds parents to inspect all candy and items obtained by their kids while out on Halloween.“If any candy looks like it has been tampered with or opened, it is best just to throw the item away. Be wary of allowing children to consume any homemade treats and fully inspect all other items,” Riha advised. 1276

An irate homeowner in Louisiana who armed himself with a handgun and chased down a group of teenagers after they rolled his house is behind bars for aggravated assault.The armed confrontation came in response to what Mandeville Police Chief Gerald Sticker said was the group of teens “yearly ritual of ‘rolling or toilet papering’ of homes of fellow students” in the early morning hours of October 27.Craig Scott apparently didn’t think it was funny.Scott armed himself with a semiautomatic handgun and chased down the group of teens, according to Sticker.After he caught up to the group in another section of the neighborhood, Scott pulled his vehicle across the road to block their exit, got out, and confronted the teens with his handgun.Scott was arrested on November 2 and charged with aggravated assault with a firearm and obstruction of a roadway.“Though he had ample opportunity, Mr. Scott never once called 911 or requested police assistance,” Sticker said. “The end clearly did not justify the means this situation.”The teens still may face charges, since “rolling” a house is technically considered criminal mischief, according to Sticker. 1163

An Arizona mother has been arrested after police found audio recordings of her threatening to kill her abused infant. Mesa police report that on Wednesday morning, 18-year-old Leticia Stella Palos, was arrested in Casa Grande for child abuse.Investigators say on July 7, a 3-month-old boy was taken to Cardon’s Children Hospital for an injured right arm. Doctors discovered that his upper arm was broken. Doctors also allegedly found multiple bruises and fractures to three ribs in various states of healing. Police say the doctors determined that these injuries were "highly suspicious for non-accidental trauma."Detectives checked Palos' cell phone and reportedly found multiple recordings sent from her to the boy's father, where they heard the boy breathing "heavy and fast."In other recordings, they reportedly heard the child screaming. Palos was also heard in the recordings threatening to "throw the victim in the trash," and "that she is going to kill the victim."She also allegedly referenced drug use in the recordings.She is being held on a ,000 bond for child abuse.If you suspect a child is being abused, the Arizona Department of Child Services has resources available to report the issue to a social worker. ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) — Students at the University of Michigan are being ordered to stay in place for two weeks after a surge of coronavirus cases driven by social gatherings on and off-campus.Local health officials said Tuesday that the surge is overwhelming their ability to confront the pandemic. Officials say coronavirus cases related to the university represent 61% of the total in Washtenaw County, compared to just 2% in August.More than 1,000 students have been infected since the start of the fall term despite limits on gatherings and classes that are mostly held online. Undergraduate students can attend in-person classes and also leave their residences for exercise, work, food, medical appointments, voting, and religious services.In response to the order, university President Mark Schlissel says even more undergraduate classes will shift to remote instruction. Students who want to leave campus housing for the balance of the term could receive a refund or credit. 990

ANZA, Calif. (KGTV) - A preliminary 3.1-magnitude earthquake jostled the Anza region, sending shivers into the North San Diego County area Saturday.The tremor hit about two miles northeast of Anza, in southern Riverside County, just before 12 p.m., according to the U.S. Geological Survey. It has a depth of about 7.4 miles.According to the USGS' "Did you feel it?" map, the shakeup could be felt in Temecula and into Orange County, and as far away as Jamul. Most reports were centered around Cathedral City and Anza.There were no immediate reports of damages or injuries.One week ago, magnitude-3.5 and -3.2 earthquakes hit the same region.Multiple aftershocks were recorded following Saturday's earthquake, though most below 1.0. The quake is the eighth above 2.5 recorded in the Anza area over the past 30 days, according to USGS. 861
