BEIJING, June 14 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao stressed the importance of promoting domestic consumption and independent research and development during a three-day inspection tour of the central Hunan Province, which ended Sunday.     Wen said the key to a sound economic future lay in continuing to "unswervingly" implement the government's policies to deal with the international economic downturn.     Companies should increase investment in research and development and better utilize science and technologies to "foster new economic growth points," he said.     Local governments, meanwhile, should develop energy-efficient and environment-friendly industries and put priority on a recycling and green economy, he said. BEIJING, July 3 (Xinhua) -- Rainstorms since early the week have swept a wide swathe of south China, leaving dozens people dead or missing and forcing hundreds of thousands to evacuate.     In Jiangxi Province, two people were killed, three more were missing and more than 100,000 have been evacuated following the heaviest rain this summer, local flood control authorities said. The rain damaged 178,000 hectares of crops, caused 8,231 houses to collapse, and incurred a direct economic loss of 1.31 billion yuan (191.7 million U.S. dollars). BEIJING, May 10 (Xinhua) -- China and Kuwait signed five agreements here on Sunday in an effort to further the bilateral relations to a higher level.     The agreements covered fields of energy, finance, telecommunication, transportation and education, according a press release from the Chinese Foreign Ministry.
