A Buffalo Public School student’s mother wants answers after she says her son’s teacher dragged him down several stairs. “She was dragging him down the stairs by his knees,” said Tasha Dixon. Dixon says she didn’t witness what happened but someone else did, prompting an internal investigation by the district. “I had received a call from the principal and she said my son had been involved in an incident.” She says her son Malik is in a 611 class, which is for special education students. She says Malik also has a disability. “He asked her to go to the bathroom and she told him no because she felt he didn’t need to go. He sat down and she insisted he move so she took him by the legs and thumped him down a couple stairs.” Dixon says she met with the school principal, who she says indicated an eyewitness came forward to administrators about what happened. During that meeting she says she was told since it happened in a hallway, cameras captured the event, however; she was not allowed to see the video because it is property of the district. “In a closed meeting she said it wasn’t a good video,” Dixon said. “How can you have the audacity to touch my son?” A spokesperson for Buffalo Schools says the district did a month-long investigation and found the claims against the teacher unfounded. The teacher returned to school Friday, more than a month after the incident. Dixon kept her son home from school Friday. We asked the district to see the video. Our request was denied. A fourth-grade teacher in Seminole, Florida, was arrested on Monday for bringing a loaded gun and two knives to Starkey Elementary School.Betty Soto had a Glock 9mm handgun loaded with seven rounds of ammunition, a six-inch fighting knife and a two-inch finger knife in her backpack.The gun was exposed in her classroom with fourth-grade students present, according to a report by the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office.Erica Kennedy, whose two children attend the school, told 488

WASHINGTON – When the House of Representatives begins its public impeachment hearings, it will be a rare event – only the fourth time involving a president. Presidents Andrew Johnson, Richard Nixon and Bill Clinton all faced varying degrees of the impeachment process. Now, so will President Donald Trump. “It is a political event,” said Georgetown Law Professor Victoria Nourse. She says while it is a high-profile event, she cautions to not call it “political theater.” “Impeachment was the last gasp, right? If someone did something completely antithetical to the nature of the Republic, if they were essentially unfit to serve in office, the founders wanted to have a backstop remedy, other than an election,” Nourse said. Here’s how the process will unfold: 1. Several House committees will hold public hearings. It’s up to the judiciary committee to decide if the full House will vote on impeachment. 2. Democrats hold the majority in the House– there are 235 of them. At least 218 representatives need to vote for impeachment for it to move on to the Senate. 3. The Senate holds the impeachment trial and acts as a jury. 4. Republicans have the majority in that chamber— 53 seats. An impeachment conviction requires a two-thirds majority vote. There are three offenses that are considered impeachable: - Treason - Bribery - High crimes and misdemeanors The Constitution does not define what high crimes and misdemeanors are, so it’s open to interpretation. “What it has to be is something that is very serious to the conduct of the nation's democracy,” Nourse said. A Georgia family got a special holiday surprise last week after finding an owl hiding inside their Christmas tree.The discovery came last Thursday evening when Katie McBride Newman and her two children, India and Jack, were finishing dinner.India, 10, had started to clear the table and was in another room when Newman heard her exclaim, "Oh my gosh!""She comes very dramatically into the dining room and goes, 'Mama, that ornament scared me,'" Newman told CNN. "Then she bursts into tears."Newman said she's a big fan of owls, so the tree actually had about a dozen owl ornaments gracing its branches. At first, Newman said she thought India had just been spooked by one of those.So Newman checked it out, ready to calm her daughter's fears. But when she peered into the tree for the ornament, she saw the owl turn its head and look straight at her."And I'm like, 'Oh, that's a real owl,'" Newman said. Meanwhile, India had disappeared into the other room, in tears again.Owl may have been in their tree for over a weekThe family had purchased the tree from a store about two days after Thanksgiving, so at first they thought the owl must have flown in and taken refuge inside their tree, Newman's husband, Billy, told CNN.The family left their windows and doors open that night, hoping the bird would leave on its own -- but it didn't.The next day, they called the Chattahoochee Nature Center, a non-profit environmental center about an hour away from their home in Newnan. An employee there told them to leave the owl some raw chicken, concerned it may not have eaten in a few days.The employee stopped by Saturday morning. She caught the bird and identified it as an Eastern screech owl, common in the Georgia area, a spokesperson for the nature center, Jon Copsey, told CNN. She also checked for injuries and gave it some food and nutritional supplements.The owl was pretty thin, igniting the theory that the bird must have been inside the tree since they bought it, Billy Newman said.Returning the owl to the wildThe employee left the family some instructions: Leave the bird in a crate in a darkened room and release it after dark.At dusk on Saturday, the family left the open crate outside. By 9:30 p.m., the owl had disappeared.Copsey said the family did everything right in the situation -- closing it off from the rest of the house, trying to help it escape on its own and calling a wildlife rehabilitation professional.Katie Newman, though, says she swears she can still hear the owl at night, hooting away. 2531
