KABUL, April 25 (Xinhua) -- Two Chinese hostages who have been held by Afghan militants for over three months were released Saturday, the Chinese embassy said here Sunday.Yin Juming, the embassy charge d'affaires, told Xinhua that the two Chinese nationals working with the China Railway 14 Bureau were set free by the militants in western Afghanistan's Faryab province.Zhang Fengqiang, an engineer, and Wu Yulin, a worker, were seized by militants who claimed to be Taliban insurgents on Jan. 16 enroute from the working site to the residence camp in the province, said the Chinese diplomat.The duo were awaiting the journey back to China to reunite with their families, he said.

CHICAGO, April 21 (Xinhua) -- The Chicago-based Boeing Company reported on Wednesday that its first-quarter net earnings were 519 million U.S. dollars, down 15 percent from 610 million dollars in the same quarter last year, citing the health care legislation charge.The aerospace and defense giant said in its first quarterly financial report that total revenues for the first three months were 15.22 billion dollars, down from 16.50 billion dollars in the prior year quarter while the earnings per share was down to 70 cents from 86 cents one year ago.Boeing indicated that the results for the quarter reflect solid performance across core businesses and a previously disclosed 20 cents charge per share on health care legislation, while the year- ago quarter results were reduced by 31 cents per share on a charge due to poor market conditions in commercial airplanes."With clear progress on the 787 and 747-8, solid financial performance and marked improvement in our customer outlook, we continue to draw on the positive momentum we saw at the end of 2009," said Jim McNerney, Boeing chairman, president and chief executive officer.Boeing's earnings guidance for 2010 is pegged at 3.50 dollars to 3.80 dollars per share, reduced from 3.70 to 4.00 per share due to the charge on health care legislation. HARBIN, May 16 (Xinhua) -- Seven people were killed, and 98 more injured after a tornado and hailstorm struck northeast China's Heilongjiang Province Saturday, a local official source said Sunday.Altogether 8,502 people were affected, among whom 3,684 were evacuated, after 28 townships of Suihua City, about 120 km from the provincial capital Harbin, were hit by the violent weather from 3:15 p.m. to 5:50 p.m. Saturday, Suihua's emergency response office said in a statement.A total of 1,015 houses were toppled down in the tornado, and Minqiang Village of Gongrong township was hit the hardest, with the roofs of every house being uplifted, it said.Five people of Beilin District and one from Suihua's Lanxi County were killed. The strong wind tore through eight townships of Hailun city under the jurisdiction of Suihua, killing one more people."I was cooking at the outer room when the tornado came. I attempted to close the window, but the wind was so strong and fast that the house collapsed before I could close it," said Wang Junxia, a woman from Xinquan Village of Beilin District, Suihua City.Wang was temporarily buried beneath bricks, but she managed to crawl out of the rubble and saved by the rescuers.Relief work was underway.Two hundred quilts and more than 500 kg of bread were sent to the affected Beilin District.
