SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — An arrest has been made in connection with a fatal hit-and-run Sunday in Sherman Heights, San Diego Police have confirmed to 10News.On Sunday, a silver SUV was traveling eastbound in the 1800 block of Market Street at about 2 a.m. when the vehicle hit a pedestrian. Family members have identified the victim as 41-year-old Jason Gordon.It's still not clear if Gordon was standing in the street or crossing lanes, police said. The driver fled the scene after fatally hitting the man.Police Tuesday released photos of the man they believed to be the suspect of the crash visiting Humberto’s Taco Shop on the corner of Broadway and 25th Street, where he ordered food. The cashier who took the man's order said it appeared that the man had been drinking that night.RELATED: Pedestrian struck, killed by hit-and-run motorist in San DiegoPolice say the photos from the taco shop and photos from Smart Street Lights near the crash scene led them to the home of 28-year-old Christopher Nunez, where they also located the suspected vehicle, a 2008 GMC Envoy. Nunez was arrested and booked into county jail on felony hit-and-run charges.Nunez is being held on 0,000 bail and set to be arraigned on Jan. 24.Gordon's wife, Katie, sent 10News the following statement after the arrest:"While nothing can bring Jason back to his family, this arrest is a small step forward in the healing process. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A second lawsuit has been filed by family members of a mother and daughter killed by a YouTube star in a deadly wrong-way crash last year.18-year-old Trevor Heitmann, known as McSkillet on YouTube, drove his McLaren the wrong way on I-805 in August 2018. The crash killed Aileen Pizarro and her 12-year-old daughter Aryana. This latest lawsuit was filed August 22nd by Angelo Pizarro and Arcelio Garcia. Pizarro is one of the sons of Aileen Pizarro. Garcia is the father of Aryana. A lawsuit earlier this summer was filed by Aileen Pizarro's other son, Dominic, and her father. The lawsuit claims wrongful death and negligence by the City of San Diego and the County of San Diego. The family is also suing Heitmann’s estate. It states that San Diego police received a “mental case” call that Heitmann was “screaming, paranoid and delusional and threatening to harm his mom.”Police were advised by a licensed psychiatrist that Heitmann needed to be “possibly placed on a 5150 mental hold,” according to court records. However, officers did not speak to or evaluate Heitmann to determine if he was a danger to himself or others. The lawsuit also states that “one or more of the Police Officers represented or implied that they were part of a San Diego County Psychiatric Emergency Team.”Team 10 reached out to both county and city officials. As of Wednesday afternoon, there was no comment regarding the lawsuit from the city. A county spokesperson said they have not seen the lawsuit yet. Cynthia Chihak, the attorney for Pizarro and Garcia, sent Team 10 a statement which reads in part:"I am privileged to represent Angelo Pizarro, the son of Aileen Pizarro, and Arcelio Garcia, the father and sole heir of twelve year old Aryana Pizarro, who were killed on August 23, 2018 when their car was struck head-on by a McLaren automobile driven by Trevor Heitmann... This family is not excusing Mr. Heitmann’ s reckless behavior, but believe this tragic loss of three lives could have been prevented if the City of San Diego has taken seriously earlier reports of his violent and dangerous behavior. The loss suffered by this young man Angelo, of his mother and sister and the loss to Mr. Garcia of his daughter can never be rectified. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A Seattle hiker arrived in San Diego over the weekend, where he'll begin a 2,600-mile trek to raise awareness and money for Alzheimer's disease.Toby Gallier's family was first impacted by the disease four years ago when his mom's partner was diagnosed. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A team led by Scripps Research has yielded positive results in a new research study involving antibodies.Researchers say they've worked to isolate the most potent antibodies in the blood of recovered COVID-19 patients. The study was published in "Science."Dennis Burton, the study's co-author, says once they identified the most potent antibodies, they cloned them."You clone the really good ones, and then you make lots and lots of them in production facilities and then use as a standard to protect and-or treat Covid-19," Burton said.They've tested the cloned antibodies, or monoclonal antibodies, on animals, and they've yielded positive results. They hope to conduct human testing early next year.When asked if it is similar to antibody treatments from convalescent plasma donations, Burton says what they're making is more efficient and can be produced for masses.He says the monoclonal antibodies could be used as a preventive measure given to uninfected but at-risk people before a vaccine is available, and could even be useful for people that may not respond well to a vaccine.He also says the monoclonal antibodies could be used to design better vaccines by giving researchers a better idea of which antibodies are most effective. 1268

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A San Diego police officer shot a man during a response to an emergency call in a Rancho Penasquitos neighborhood Wednesday night, police officials said.SDPD officials said the incident happened around 7:30 p.m. in the 8500 block of Celtic Court, near Donaker Street. Officials confirmed officers were called to the area after a 911 call was made regarding a domestic violence incident.An SDPD official at the scene said, "The dispatcher could overhear the reporting party and the male on the radio call. She could hear the male talking about wanting to be shot by police officers and there was indication there was firearms inside of the house.”Police said when officers arrived, they found a 61-year-old man and his wife in front their home. When officers approached, the man “produced a revolver from his waistband” and started to draw the weapon towards officers. Officials said one officer fired a single round from his service weapon, striking the man in the torso.The injured man, identified on Friday as Richard Young, was breathing and talking while being taken to a local hospital, police said. Young underwent emergency surgery early Thursday morning, and police said Friday that Young "remains in a local hospital under guard."According to the department, officers recovered the man’s gun at the scene.The officers involved in the incident were placed on administrative leave in light of the investigation, which is being conducted by SDPD’s Homicide Unit.Officials identified the officer involved as Timothy Breck, a five-year veteran of the Department assigned to Northeastern Division.SDPD officials said: “When the Homicide Unit completes their investigation, it will be reviewed by the San Diego County District Attorney’s Office to determine if the officers bear any criminal liability for their actions.The Internal Affairs Unit will conduct an investigation to determine if there were any policy violations, and the Shooting Review Board will evaluate the tactics used by the officers.The Community Review Board on Police Practices will conduct a review of the incident and provide any appropriate recommendations.The Federal Bureau of Investigations and the United States Attorney’s Office will also be monitoring the investigation.” 2282
