SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A man says his car was stolen while he was picking up a delivery order from a Subway in Clairemont. Luis Riveramerced said he was working for Postmates, a food delivery app, on Tuesday when he stopped at the Subway in Clairemont Town Square.“All I had to do is grab the bag and take off,” he said.So he felt comfortable leaving his car running, expecting to be in and out in a few seconds.“If I know it’s pick-up only, then I'll let my car run. I’ll just grab it,” he said.But while he was inside, he noticed part of the order was missing. As he was waiting for the order to be fixed, surveillance video captured a man peeking into the store, getting in his car and driving away.“I was like wow,” he remembered thinking when he went back outside. “I wasn’t expecting somebody to jump in my car right in front of me and take off like that.”He called the police but by the time they got there, the driver was long gone.“You put a little bit of trust and now I will never do that again,” said Riveramerced.A Navy veteran, he said he’d been working for Postmates for a few weeks. Toni Atkins' downtown San Diego office Friday morning, and joined forces to call for help.Members from the Alliance of Californians for Community Empowerment gathered to tell Atkins to support Assembly Bill 1436, which would extend the eviction moratorium until April 1, 2021. They say it's the only way to protect people who haven't been able to pay rent because of the coronavirus pandemic.Meanwhile, a car rally organized by UDW/AFSCME Local 3930 demanded a new tax on California billionaires to help pay for child care and shore up holes in the state's education budget.The groups were unaware of each other's planned protests until they both showed up at Atkins' office at the same time. But they say their combined voices should help get her attention."This tax would help those families who need quality childcare, affordable childcare, so we are supporting the children," said Miren Algorri, a child care provider who supports the tax. "This is not about the rich, this is about the children, the future, not only of this community, but of California, the nation.""We need protection," said Patricia Mendoza, a mother of two who faces eviction if the current moratorium runs out. "Where are we going to go? What's going to happen to me, what's going to happen to my future? I don't want to have to tell my kids we're going to be homeless. And I don't think any mother, or any parent would like to tell their kids we're going to be homeless."Atkins has already written a bill that would allow landlords and tenants to work out a payment plan for back rent, to be paid between 2024 and 2034. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – A man was arrested in connection with the shooting death of a woman in a Mountain View apartment, San Diego police announced Thursday.SDPD officials said officers responded to reports of a shooting inside an apartment unit in the 4500 block of Imperial Avenue at around 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.Officers arrived and found a woman, later identified as Emily Cortez, with a gunshot wound in her upper torso. She was located on an upstairs walkway of the apartment complex, SDPD officials said.According to police, a man was providing medical aid as officers and emergency medical crews arrived at the scene.Despite life-saving efforts, Cortez, 19, was declared dead at the scene.During their investigation, SDPD Homicide Unit detectives identified the suspected gunman as 18-year-old Jorge Manuel Sanchez and arrested him in connection with Cortez’s death.SDPD officials said Cortez and Sanchez lived in the apartment where the incident occurred, and the suspect and victim were in a relationship.No other information was released.Anyone with information regarding the incident is urged to call the SDPD Homicide Unit at 619-531-2293 or Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477. 1188
