LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Multiple people were injured tonight when a stampede erupted at a gathering to honor slain rapper Nipsey Hussle in Hyde Park.It was not immediately clear what prompted the stampede, which occurred about 8:10 p.m. in front of The Marathon Clothing store near the intersection of Crenshaw Boulevard and Slauson Avenue, where Hussle was gunned down Sunday afternoon.One person was critically injured and taken to a hospital, according to Margaret Stewart of the Los Angeles Fire Department. LONDON (AP) — An American tourist from Louisiana helped stop a hammer-wielding thief who unsuccessfully tried to steal the Magna Carta at Salisbury Cathedral, working in tandem with a church employee to prevent the man from escaping.Matthew Delcambre, of New Iberia, Louisiana, told The Associated Press that he and his wife Alexis were sightseeing in the southwestern English city when a man tried to shatter the glass encasing the precious manuscript in the church's Chapter House. After Alexis tried to raise the alarm to others, Delcambre and other bystanders banded together to try to hold the thief back behind the doors of the Chapter House.When the thief pushed past them, the 56-year-old IT expert gave chase into an outer courtyard. LONG BEACH (CNS) - For thousands of years, millions of tiny white abalone snails lived along the California coast.Now facing extinction, the white abalone will be getting a major boost toward survival this month, thanks to a breeding program spearheaded by marine organizations across the state, including the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach.In mid-November, researchers from the aquarium, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, the UC Davis Bodega Marine Laboratory, the Bay Foundation, Paua Marine Research Group and state Department of Fish and Wildlife will be releasing white abalone into the wild at a series of undisclosed locations across Southern California.RELATED: Dog swept out to sea rescued, owner asks for more signage"This is a historic moment, as a species once on the brink of extinction may finally have a chance to rebound," said Sandy Trautwein, vice president of animal husbandry at Aquarium of the Pacific. "This is important not just for white abalone, but for the entire marine ecosystem off Southern California."Researchers are withholding the locations of the planned releases, hoping to give the white abalone the best chance at successfully settling into their new homes. The white abalone were actually placed underwater at their release locations last month, but they remain inside holding boxes."Natural recovery is not occurring fast enough or at all for this species to rebound on its own," said Melissa Neuman of the NOAA National Marine Fisheries Services' Abalone Recovery Program.
