Law enforcement officials from New York to Florida are examining clues to find the person or persons who sent 10 packages containing what appear to be explosive materials to prominent Democrats, critics of President Donald Trump, and to CNN's New York offices as authorities classify the incidents as domestic terrorism.Three new packages were detected Thursday -- two intended for former Vice President Joe Biden and one for actor-director Robert DeNiro -- each bearing the same markings as the seven packages detected earlier this week. And authorities now believe several of the packages went through the Opa-locka, Florida, processing and distribution center, according to two law enforcement officials familiar with the investigation.The devices mark one of the most serious attempts to stoke fear and terror in the US in a period that has already seen a number of violent political attacks. The apparent bombs, while rudimentary in design, according to law enforcement officials, targeted two former US presidents, a former vice president and potential presidential contender, and numerous outspoken critics of the Trump administration.Investigators are reviewing security footage from the CNN building and examining the packages themselves for potential clues, according to current and former law enforcement officials."Everything is a clue," a law enforcement official said.As authorities examine clues, they are also finding more questions to answer.One key question authorities are puzzling over is why none of the apparent bombs detonated, a second law enforcement source said, raising questions about the skill and motive of the bombmaker.This person said either the bombmaker was good enough to ensure none would go off and never intended them to explode or it was poorly constructed. Authorities consider the bombs to be potentially destructive because of the presence of what is believed to be pyrotechnic powder. Though it appears they were handled through the postal system -- and thus jostled and moved -- without triggering any explosion.William Sweeney, FBI special agent in charge of the New York field office, said Thursday afternoon that the powder discovered with the package sent to CNN did not pose a biological threat but another official said it was undergoing testing.The FBI's counterterrorism team is leading the investigation and has classified it as a domestic terror matter, the law enforcement official said. That classification is based on the absence of other information and could change.The Secret Service, US Postal Inspector Service, and ATF are also working on the investigation with various state and federal offices. LA JOLLA, Calif. (KGTV) - The future of organ transportation may be passing through La Jolla. Physicians at Scripps Green Hospital recently moved a donated liver from Escondido to La Jolla in a new transport system before successfully transplanting it into a police officer. The effort was part of a clinical trial evaluating the transportation system, known as OCS (Organ Care System) Liver, at several major transplant medical centers across the United States. “It’s almost like putting the organ back in the body right away,” said Christopher Marsh, M.D, organ transplant surgeon and division head of Scripps Center for Organ and Cell Transplantation. The OCS is relatively larger than a microwave and pumps oxygenated blood along with other nutrients to the livers in transit. “We are constantly challenged by a shortage of livers to meet the transplant needs of our patients,” added Marsh, “warm perfusion transportation has the potential to expand the supply of organs that are available to our patients and, as a result, improve the chances of a successful transplant and a positive long-term health outcome for more of our patients.” Scripps expect to enroll nine more patients using the mechanical system in the clinical trial over the next year. 1263

(KGTV) - A speeding U-Haul truck turned a neighborhood near La Mesa into a dumping ground Saturday afternoon. Along Tropico Drive, the sound of a speeding vehicle - and then a loud thud - startled Steve Haase in his driveway.  In the middle of the road was a couch, carpet padding, tile and a painting.    Haase lives on a cul-de-sac, so he knew the vehicle would have to come back around.  Haase walked into the road, and saw a mid-sized U-Haul truck.  He saw two men in their early 20s inside, laughing."They're coming down the street and I put my hand up.  They stop, but they get close, so I get out of the way. I then asked him if he was going to pick it up.  They said, 'Of course,' and then took off with big speed," said Haase.  810

(KGTV) — Police arrested one person and rearrested another person this week in connection with looting in La Mesa following police protests last month.Both arrests were made without incident and for burglary during an emergency on May 30 during rioting in the East County city, according to La Mesa Police:On June 10, 26-year-old Helen Tewolde was arrested on suspicion of looting Sally’s Beauty Supply on May 30. An anonymous tip was submitted to police after video that appeared to show Tewolde at the scene looting appeared on social media, LMPD said.On June 11, 25-year-old Rey Estrada-Silva was arrested on suspicion of looting the Verizon store and Target in Grossmont Shopping Center on May 30. Estrada-Silva was previously arrested last week on suspicion on looting Play It Again Sports and was out on bail during Thursday's arrest, LMPD said.As night set on May 30, protests outside LMPD's headquarters turned chaotic, after vandals set fires to numerous buildings and vehicles.
