BEIJING, Sept. 29 (Xinhua) -- Senior Chinese leader Li Changchun Tuesday asked the People's Publishing House, China's oldest publisher of books on the Party and politics, to actively use new media to expand its influence.     Li, a member of the Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee Political Bureau, said during a visit to the publishing house that it should invigorate its development. BEIJING, August 5 -- Property sales across 30 cities in China fell 4 percent in July as prices soared and supplies dwindled with big cities feeling the pinch for the first time this year, analysts said.     According to the UWIN property transaction system, the floor space of apartments sold in July dipped 5.37 percent over June to 1.04 million sq m.     Statistics put out by the Beijing Real Estate Transaction website showed that sales of forward delivery housing in Beijing fell to 10,862 units last month, compared to 12,840 units in June.     Property transactions in Guangzhou fell 36 percent over June. The figure is only half of that of May, said Guangzhou's official property website.     "The fall has been triggered by high property prices and shrinking supplies in some cities," said Qin Xiaomei, head of research, Jones Lang LaSalle Beijing. "Property developers have slowed down the pace of new projects in the second half after robust sales in the first half," she said.     Property prices in China's 70 major cities were up 0.8 percent in June, the fourth month-on-month growth in a row this year, according to statistics from the National Development and Reform Commission.     Beijing and Shanghai reported a month-on-month growth of 0.4 and 1 percentage points respectively in June, with prices skyrocketing to record highs of 2007 in some areas, fueled by strong investment, purchase demand and higher land prices.     The high prices have also made most of the prospective buyers wary of making fresh investments.     Li Wei, a 29-year-old company executive in Beijing, said he would prefer to adopt a wait-and-see attitude as the high prices have made most of his preferred apartments unaffordable.     "The unit price of the apartment has soared to 20,000 yuan per sq m from 14,500 yuan per sq m 40 days ago," Li said.     For others like Zhang Li, a property speculator from Wenzhou, Zhejiang province, this is the time to cash in. The apartment she bought in November last year has gained 40 percent in the past six months, largely exceeding her expectations.     "I am a bit uneasy with such a rapid increase in such a short period of time," said Zhang, who has property investment experience of more than a decade. "With people's income and economic fundamentals seeing no big change, I think selling the property will be a safer bet."     According to Grant Ji, director of Savills (Beijing), a UK-based real estate service provider, the fall in transaction volume is still within a normal band.     "July was an off-season for the housing market," said Ji.     "With no big shift likely in the macroeconomic policy during the second half, property prices are unlikely see a big fall as the market is still awash with funds," Ji said.

BEIJING, Sept. 5 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese economy is experiencing a "V" shape recovery and the growth rate may reach 8 percent both this year and next year, said Chinese economist Fan Gang said here Saturday.     Fan, a monetary policy adviser to China's central bank, said at the 2009 annual conference of CEO in Beijing, that the economy will see a sustainable recovery and will be back to normal in 2011,according to a report of the China News Service.     He predicted that the real estate investment will increase by around 30 percent in 2010, which will add one percentage point to economic growth.     Corporate investment is expected to grow prominently next year and as the global trade is warming up, Chinese export, which still enjoys the cost advantage, will recover.       "After the economy is back to normal in 2010, the government will adjust the macro-economic policy. But before that happens, the current stimulus policy should stay to sustain the recovery," he said.     Fan said people should adjust their expectation of economic growth and not regard recovery simply as a double-digit growth. A growth grate of 8 percent to 9 percent is sustainable growth.

BEIJING, Oct. 17 (Xinhua) -- The Communist Party of China (CPC)Central Committee Saturday congratulated the Kuomintang (KMT) plenary congress, expecting deepening trust, more exchanges and common understanding across the Taiwan Strait.     The KMT held its 18th plenary congress Saturday morning, at which Taiwan leader Ma Ying-jeou officially assumed the position of KMT chairman.     In a statement to the KMT Central Committee and Ma Ying-jeou, the CPC Central Committee expected the two parties to stick to the"common wish for peaceful cross-Strait development".     With the 1992 Consensus and opposing "Taiwan independence" as the political foundation, the two parties should deepen mutual trust, increase exchanges and expand common understanding, the statement said.     In response to the CPC statement, the KMT Central Committee said in a reply that the two parties have reached a common understanding to promote cross-Strait peaceful development.     The KMT expected to work with the CPC for improving trust and mutual benefits, in a bid to improve the welfare of people on both sides, the statement said.     Hu Jintao, general secretary of the CPC Central Committee, congratulated Lien Chan for maintaining the position of KMT honorary chairman and Wu Poh-hsiung for taking the position of KMT honorary chairman respectively.     The "common wish for peaceful cross-Strait development," reached by the two parties during Lien's 2005 visit to the mainland, has set a clear direction and laid the foundation for cross-Strait relations, Hu said in a statement to Lien.     "We sincerely expect Mr. Lien to continue working for the peaceful development across the Strait," he said.     In response to Hu's congratulation, Lien said in a statement that since the two sides resumed systematic talks based on the 1992 Consensus, the peace and stability across the Strait has been greatly enhanced and people's welfare improved.     "We should work even harder to strengthen the five-point common wishes," Lien said.     As the KMT chairman in the past two years, Wu had made great contribution to improving cross-Strait relations, Hu said in a statement to Wu.     Last year and this May, Wu visited the mainland twice for the KMT-CPC talks, which laid solid foundations for favorable exchanges between the two sides, he said. "We expected Mr. Wu to make new contributions to cross-Strait peaceful development."     In a reply to Hu, Wu said in the past four years, the two parties pushed forward their cooperation step by step and won support from the people and the international society.     "The two parties should work together for peace and development with sincerity and goodwill," he said.     As honorary chairmen, Lien and Wu will assist Ma on cross-Strait affairs and regional exchanges.

BEIJING, Aug. 15 (Xinhua) -- China's top economic planner, the National Development and Reform Commission, said Saturday it is drafting a development plan for the emerging industry of energy conservation and environmental protection.     The commission said in a statement posted on its Web site that the move is aimed to counter the impact of the global financial crisis by "accelerating the cultivation of emerging industries and aiming at a commanding height in future economic competition."     The development plan on the sector covers energy conservation, sustainable use of resources and environmental protection, according to the statement.     Technologies, equipment, products and services concerning energy conservation and environmental protection would be involved in the plan, it said.     The commission revealed no further details on the plan.
