A Clarksville teacher was charged with assault after an incident with a student during a field trip to Nashville was reported to police.According to an affidavit from Metro Nashville Police, Robert Neitzke – a teacher at Clarksville Academy – was arrested after he allegedly grabbed a student by his throat and pushed him against a wall. The alleged incident happened on March 3 while a group of students were staying at the Renaissance Hotel in Nashville. The police report said that Neitzke was the only adult on the trip.Around 11 p.m., Neitzke was reportedly trying to give students instructions for the next day and had to stop several times to get their attention. That’s when one of the students asked, “can we hurry this up,” and Neitzke allegedly approached the student and started to grab him. Police said Neitzke then said “it would be funny if your head hit the wall” before backing up and then grabbing the student by the neck before pushing him against the wall. The student told officers that he was able to say "get off me" and push him back. He told police that while he had no visible injuries, the squeezing of his neck caused “some discomfort.”Several other students were interviewed and all gave a very similar account of the incident, according to the report. Neitzke was placed on administrative leave and has since resigned. Clarksville Academy released the following statement, in-part:  1448

A defamation case brought by a former "Apprentice" contestant against President Donald Trump will move forward after a New York judge on Tuesday denied a defense motion for a dismissal or for a continuance of the case until he leaves office.Summer Zervos, a former contestant on the NBC show, has accused Trump of sexually assaulting her in 2007. Trump has denied her claims, at one point dismissing Zervos' and another woman's accusations at a campaign rally, calling them "total fiction" and "all false stuff."Zervos claims Trump kissed her twice on the lips during a lunch meeting in his New York City office, and on a separate occasion in Beverly Hills, she alleges he kissed her aggressively and touched her breast.Lawyers for the President have "to answer within 10 days of notice of entry of this order," Judge Jennifer Schecter wrote. The statute of limitations for the alleged misconduct has long passed. So in January 2017, with attorney Gloria Allred by her side, Zervos tried a different legal approach. She sued for defamation, arguing that Trump injured her reputation by accusing her of lying.Trump lawyers filed a motion to dismiss the case, arguing that a president has immunity from such lawsuits in state courts. 1262

A group of NFL owners are accusing Jerry Jones of "damaging the league."Jones, who owns the Dallas Cowboys, is locked in a bitter feud with the owners of other teams over NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell's contract extension.A lawyer for the NFL's compensation committee, which is responsible for negotiating Goodell's extension, sent a letter to Jones' attorney on Wednesday urging the Cowboys owner to support the committee and not "attempt to sabotage" its efforts. The letter, of which CNNMoney obtained a copy, said Jones' "antics, whatever their motivation, are damaging the league and reflect conduct detrimental to the league's best interests."The compensation committee is composed of six owners. All the other NFL owners also received a copy of the letter, which was first reported by The Wall Street Journal.Jones' lawyer didn't immediately respond to a request for comment late Wednesday. The Cowboys declined to comment. The language used in the letter follows reports that other owners are considering whether to strip Jones of his beloved Cowboys. On Tuesday, Jones dismissed the possibility as well as reports he had received a cease-and-desist warning from the committee earlier in the week."If somebody is asserting that, they are not knowledgeable about how things work in the NFL," he told a Dallas radio station. The letter is the latest development in a saga that has pitted Jones against many within the NFL, exposing deep divisions.Jones has questioned Goodell's leadership and his handling of players who protest racial injustice by kneeling during the National Anthem. He's also upset over Goodell's treatment of his star running back, Ezekiel Elliott, who was suspended six games earlier this season for domestic violence allegations.Despite his recent clashes with the league, Jones has had a lot to do with how things work in the NFL.Besides winning three Super Bowls and a spot in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, he helped Las Vegas and Los Angeles land NFL teams. And he was instrumental in securing the league's lucrative TV rights deal. But his threat to sue fellow members and the league may be a step too far.The letter sent on Wednesday said Jones is trying to "deliberately interfere" with the committee's work.Jones said he's fighting for transparency in the negotiations and wants all the owners to approve any deal with Goodell. He has said that "well over half" of owners agree with him. But all 32 owners agreed in May to give the compensation committee the power to decide whether to extend Goodell's contract, according to a league spokesman. The committee said in the letter that it has continued to keep owners informed. At one point, Jones was a non-voting honorary member of the committee, but was dismissed after he made his threat to sue.The letter referenced his dismissal and accused him of circulating old and misleading documents in his quest for transparency."Someone who is genuinely concerned 'that the owners know the truth about the negotiations' would not deliberately distribute such an outdated document ... or threaten to sue the league and its owners if he does not get his way," it said. 3170

A fifth person has died from his wounds as a result of Tuesday's Strasbourg Christmas market attack, the Paris prosecutor's office told CNN on Sunday.A gunman burst into the market in the evening hours Tuesday as crowds did their holiday shopping, killing three and wounding 13 more. The fourth victim, Antonio Megalizza, an Italian journalist who had been on life support since the attack, died on December 14, French authorities told CNN.CNN affiliate BFMTV reported that a 45-year-old man visiting from Thailand, an Afghan father of three who had been living in France for 15 years, and a man from Strasbourg also died in Tuesday's market attack. The authorities are calling the mass shooting a terrorist attack. Police killed the gunman Thursday night near the marketplace. The shooter, Cherif Chekatt, was known to prison officials for being radicalized and for his proselytizing behavior in detention in 2015, Paris prosecutor Rémy Heitz said, adding that he had been incarcerated multiple times in the past. French prosecutors said the suspect shouted the Arabic phrase "Allahu Akbar," meaning "God is greatest," at the time of the attack. 1152

A family who triggered a device at a gender reveal party that allegedly started a wildfire over the weekend in California could be held financially liable for the fire fight. The El Dorado Fire was started Saturday morning in San Bernardino County in Southern California, it has burned more than 10,000 acres and is 16 percent contained as of Tuesday morning.CAL FIRE says the fire was started when a smoke-generating pyrotechnic device was launched at a gender reveal party in a park. The press release from CAL FIRE reads, “Those responsible for starting fires due to negligence or illegal activity can be held financially and criminally responsible.”A spokesman for California’s Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, also known as CAL FIRE, told The Daily Mail the family whose device started the El Dorado Fire could be liable for the entire bill for the destruction. The couple was reportedly still at the park where the fire started when firefighters arrived.“We know how it started because they were still there,” Bennet Milloy with CAL FIRE told The Daily Mail. “That, and the fact that there were surveillance cameras in the park.”Milloy says they could face a variety of criminal charges, which could increase if homes and buildings are destroyed. In addition to the cost of putting the fire out, which could get into the millions of dollars. This is not the first time a gender reveal party has started a wildfire. In 2017, a couple’s party in Arizona sparked a fire that burned around 47,000 acres south of Tucson. The father, Dennis Dickey, who was then an off-duty US Border Patrol agent, was given probation and asked to pay for damages, roughly million.Dickey’s “reveal” was shooting a target with a high-powered rifle, resulting in an explosion of blue powder. In April of this year, a gender reveal party led to ten acres burning in Florida. 1871
