SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Nine people were taken into custody Friday after border officials say a panga-style boat was stopped off the coast of Carlsbad.The boat was spotted at about 10:20 p.m. on Thursday by San Diego Air and Marine Branch crews. Officials say the crews used blue lights, sirens, and a spotlight to try and stop the boat, but it would not stop.Crews then used disabling rounds on the boat's engine, bringing the vessel to a stop about 12 miles west of Carlsbad.The nine people on the boat were taken into custody onshore by Border Patrol agents. 564

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - More than million has been spent on Proposition 15 this year, making it the third most expensive ballot proposition in 2020.According to reports from the California Fair Political Practices Commission, supporters have brought in million. Opponents have contributed million.As written on the ballot, Proposition 15 will "increase funding sources for public schools, community colleges, and local government services by changing tax assessment of commercial and industrial property."The Proposition will raise commercial and industrial property taxes by reassessing property based on current values. Under 1978's Proposition 13, property tax has been calculated based on the value when the property was last sold.The change in tax assessments could bring the state anywhere from billion to billion every year.Because so much money is at stake, stakeholders are willing to spend a lot to sway voters."With those being the stakes, we felt compelled to do whatever is necessary to raise funds to defeat this thing," says Michael Bustamante, the Spokesperson for the No on Prop 15 campaign committee. They've raised the most money of any committee listed, at million.A large chunk of that money, million, comes from the California Business Roundtable. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — One day after San Diego County allowed dining in restaurants to resume with modifications, Pacific Beach's El Prez was ordered to close for violating county public health orders.Now, the restaurant and bar says it's hoping to reopen sometime next week after passing an health department inspection.Last week, El Prez was the scene of customers ignoring physical distancing and facial covering rules. Video of the first night the restaurants reopened was played during the county's daily press conference as local leaders criticized the scene.RELATED: Pacific Beach's El Prez shut down for violating health orders"This facility is now closed. This facility will remain closed until further notice," Supervisor Nathan Fletcher said at the time. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — North Park residents will celebrate this holiday season with an annual tradition intact — at least for one more year.For 56 years, the Toyland Parade has delighted crowds in North Park during the holiday season. But much like a parade balloon, financial troubles have loomed over organizers.Last year, the parade was briefly canceled after former-host Victoria House Corporation said it had lost support from sponsors. Then in March 2019, the community learned that a Victoria House Corporation organizer was accused of fraud and pocketing 2018 parade donations and fees after the cancellation.RELATED:North park donut shop defends homeless manSan Diego deputies share tips to protect your presents10 special holiday events coming to San DiegoNorth Park Main Street (NPMS), a volunteer-based non-profit, pledged ,000 to the parade. Angela Landsberg, executive director with North Park Main Street, says support from the local Lions Club has saved 2019's parade, but 2020 is a different story."Our presenting sponsor North Park Lions Club have ensured that it's going to go off this year, but if we don't raise enough money this year to get us carried through our planning for next year, because these things take a long time to plan, then this will be the final year," Landsberg told 10News. The organization is asking for the community to once again step in to make sure the parade steps off on University Avenue next year.
