Two brothers who threatened to stop cooperating with prosecutors in the case against actor Jussie Smollett have changed their mind. In a statement issued Thursday, an attorney representing Abimbola and Olabinjo Osundairo, said that two who have admitted to helping Smollett stage a racist and homophobic attack against the Black are ready to testify because a gun that went missing after police found it in their home had been found. Smollet is charged with lying to police about the “attack” that authorities say the actor staged to gain publicity for his career. TUCSON, Ariz. — A nationwide scam claims you'll be arrested because you missed jury duty and you'll have to pay right away to escape it. You might think you can spot a gimmick a mile away, but a Tucson businesswoman fell for it last week.At the start of Denise Hausler's busy workday as a licensed professional counselor, she received a call that went to voicemail. The man identified her by name."Hello, Ms. Hausler, this is Sgt. Adam with the Pima County Sheriff's Department warrant and citation division," the caller said. "Ma'am I'm calling in regards of an ongoing civil matter, ma'am."Hausler called him back right away. The imposter told her there were two federal warrants out for her arrest. Hausler panicked, fearing she would be arrested at her office in front of her clients."And he said, 'We're going to send someone to arrest you unless you volunteer to come down to the sheriff's office off of Benson Highway,' which made sense because the sheriff's office is off of Benson Highway," she said.The caller told her if she drove down to the sheriff's department right away, she can post bond then appear before a judge who will probably give her the money back."I'm panicked, I'm crying, I'm literally thanking this man for helping me not be arrested and being able to go home and not be detained and apologizing," she said.And he told her she can't get off the phone with him or talk to anyone."'We're going to track you by phone until you get to this location because we don't want you to flee,' and I'm believing this," she said.Minutes later, the caller instructed her to first buy My Vanilla cards from Walmart — five of them — totaling ,500 because the payment system was down at the sheriff's department and those specific cards are used for these types of cases.And she believed him. "I know, I know," she said. "In retrospect, I think, who am I? It doesn't even sound real. But when you're in it, he was so intimidating and so direct and telling me, 'We're going to come and detain you.' " She bought the cards. The scammer then told her to read all the card numbers to him to verify they're valid.She did, but at that point she became suspicious and asked a stranger to call the sheriff's department."And the man said, 'You're getting scammed. You need to get in there an undo your cards,' " she said.But it was too late. She could only recover less than a ,000. Hausler wanted to share her story because the scam can be very believable."I just don't want other people to fall for it. If you hear 'My Vanilla,' now I know the sheriff's department does not come to get you if you did miss jury duty. I didn't know that," said Hausler.KGUN called that same phone number left on Hausler's voicemail and it's the same voice saying it's the Pima County Sheriff's Department. These con artists used a spoofed phone number.The Arizona Attorney General says legitimate government offices will not threaten you with imprisonment or demand that you pay a debt immediately.    Law enforcement and courts in southern Arizona have also been warning people not to fall for it.The Arizona Superior Court in Pima County has received several recent reports of jury service scams in Pima County. Twitter says it has permanently banned an account linked to former Trump adviser Steve Bannon after he advocated violence against infectious disease expert Dr. Anthony Fauci and FBI director Christopher Wray.According to CNN, Twitter has banned the account for Bannon's podcast, "War Room: Pandemic." In an episode that was published on mutliple online platforms Thursday, Bannon falsely claimed that President Donald Trump had won the 2020 election (the race is still too close to call) and added that Trump should fire both Wray and Fauci in his next term."I'd put the heads on pikes. Right. I'd put them at the two corners of the White House as a warning to federal bureaucrats," Bannon said, according to CNN. "You either get with the program or you are gone."In addition to the actions by Twitter, the video was also removed from Facebook and YouTube. CNN reports that the video remained active on Facebook for 10 hours before it was taken down.The Washington Post also reports that the episode of the podcast was removed from Spotify's library.Bannon's comments come as some of Trump's supporters have begun dipping into more extreme rhetoric as the President's re-election chances wane. Donald Trump Jr. urged his father to "go to total war over this election," though Twitter flagged the message as misleading.Bannon was arrested earlier this year on charges that he embezzled fund in a scheme the allegedly defrauded Trump supporters who thought they were donating to a fund to build a wall on the border with Mexico. 1534

Uncertainty has ruled the COVID-19 pandemic. Now, as schools work to get students back in the classroom, school districts are working with uncertainty as they expect there to be a significant shortage of substitute teachers. “It’s a mathematical certainty that we’ll be opening up schools without enough teachers,” said Nicola Soares, president of Kelly Education, a substitute teacher recruiting firm that places more than a million substitute teachers in classes across the country. “We’ve been working around the clock anticipating what that demand was going to be, and I think every single school district is going to require substitute teachers.” The substitute teaching shortage began long before the pandemic began, but Soares expects the virus to only exacerbate the problem. In the mid-2000s, Kelly Education found 10 percent of incoming college freshmen were pursuing a degree in education. Today, that number has fallen to 4.5 percent. Add in the fact that many substitute teachers are older retirees, and they might choose not to come back to the classroom this fall because of the health risks associated with the novel coronavirus. “I love my job. I know a lot of subs say it’s not worth it to go back [because] we make just above minimum wage,” said Kathryn Barrett, a substitute teacher in Florida. Barrett says the pandemic has put many substitutes at the middle of the crossroads, where they feel compelled to work because many have been struggling with unemployment, but at the same time they do not want to risk their health or the health of their families. Many substitutes move from school to school during the week, Barrett says, increasing the risk of contracting the virus and then spreading it. “There’s just a lot of unknown right now for substitutes,” she said. Kelly Education took a survey of more than 2,000 educators and administrators nationwide. Those teachers estimated teacher vacancy rates would increase come the fall, and the need for substitutes would rise by 71 percent over the course of the next five years. To incentivize people to take up substitute teaching states has adjusted. In Iowa, the governor suspended the limit on how long a substitute teacher can teach a certain class. Two influential staffers at the Environmental Protection Agency are leaving the agency, CNN has learned.The security chief for EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt and the leader of the agency's Superfund cleanup program are both departing, according to an internal email and an agency statement, respectively.The exits come just days after Pruitt's management of the agency, including substantial spending on his personal security, travel, and office, came under scrutiny at back-to-back congressional hearings.Pasquale "Nino" Perrotta, the special agent in charge of the Pruitt security detail, announced his departure in a one-sentence email to colleagues on Tuesday morning."It has been a tremendous honor to serve as a special agent for the past 23 years and I wish you all a safe journey ahead as you move forward in both your professional and personal lives," Perrotta wrote.The security team overseen by Perrotta, a former Secret Service agent, has ballooned under Pruitt. Expensive and elaborate practices, such as flying in first class airplane seats, have drawn the attention of watchdogs like the EPA's own inspector general.Rep. Trey Gowdy, a South Carolina Republican, has indicated the House Oversight Committee, which he chairs, is interested in interviewing Perrotta about Pruitt's security and travel. Perrotta's predecessor was pushed aside after refusing to drive Pruitt around Washington using police lights and siren, three sources familiar with the situation told CNN.The EPA has repeatedly defended the spending and security practices as necessary given an increased level of threats against Pruitt. But Senate Democrats say a whistleblower and internal documents cast doubt on the severity of the threats.The EPA did not respond to CNN's request for comment on Perrotta's departure.The other staffer leaving the EPA is Albert "Kell" Kelly, an Oklahoma business associate of Pruitt who was appointed to lead the Superfund cleanup program."Kell Kelly's service at EPA will be sorely missed," Pruitt said in a statement to CNN confirming the departure.Kelly was a senior adviser to Pruitt whose role at EPA involved managing the program that cleans contaminated sites, such as dumping grounds and former industrial or mining facilities.Pruitt appointed Kelly to the position after the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, an arm of the federal government that oversees the banking industry, ended Kelly's banking career with a lifetime ban from the industry. The exact nature of his violations were not disclosed.Kelly's former bank, Spiritbank, handled the mortgage for Pruitt's 2004 home purchase in a suburb of Tulsa, Oklahoma. The bank was also involved in the purchase of a minor league baseball team by Pruitt and business partners.The New York Times reported that Kelly's bank also handled the mortgage on an Oklahoma City house Pruitt purchased through a shell company from a lobbyist.
