BEIJING, July 15 (Xinhua) -- Chinese shares continued Tuesday's rising momentum to hit a new high with Shanghai Composite Index closing at 3,188.55 on Wednesday, setting the highest close since June 2008 as coal, nonferrous metal and auto shares bolstered the rise.     The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index gained 1.38 percent, or 43.39 points, to 3,188.55.     The Shenzhen Component Index advanced 0.68 percent, or 88.19 points, to 13,079.26. BEIJING, May 22 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao urged Friday to build a powerful air force to meet the demands of the People's Liberation Army (PLA) for missions in the 21th century.     Hu, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission (CMC), made the remark when meeting delegates of the 11th CPC Congress of the PLA Air Force in Beijing.     Hu asked the Air Force's officers to constantly improve the ability to win local wars as well as accomplish diversified military tasks. BEIJING, May 9 (Xinhua) -- The nearly 10 billion yuan donation from the Communist Party of China (CPC) members would all be used for the reconstruction of China's quake zones, the Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee said Saturday.     As one of the relief efforts after an 8.0-magnitude earthquake battered southwestern China on May 12 last year, some 45.5 million CPC members donated 9.73 billion yuan (1.43 billion U.S. dollars) as "special membership fees" for the quake victims.     So far, nearly 90 percent of the fund had been allocated to the quake regions, and the rest would also be appropriated according to procedures, the department said in a statement.     The money was spent on rebuilding schools and subsidizing survivors among others, it said

BEIJING, July 4 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang Saturday urged efforts to better use geographic information so as to better serve the country's economic and social development.     Li made the remarks when attending an exhibition on maps and the achievements of China's geographic information application.     The exploration and application of geographic information and mapping since China launched its reform and opening-up policy in 1978 had played an important role in promoting the country's development, he said.     It has benefited sectors including urban and rural planning, land resources administration, environmental protection, quake-relief and national defense, according to Li.     He urged efforts to build a system of mapping and surveying in an information age and strengthen the capacity of mapping and surveying in providing service for the country's modernization drive.     The industry of geographic information should be expanded and meet multi-level and diversified market demands so as to better serve society and the people, he said.     Li also urged scientific researchers to embrace innovation in their work so as to produce more high-quality surveying and mapping instruments.
