Prosecutors have charged a West Seneca, New York, man with criminally negligent homicide after a dispute over wearing a face covering left an 80-year-old man dead.Donald Lewinski, 65 of West Seneca, was taken into custody Monday following an incident September 26 at Pamp's Red Zone Bar and Grill.According to Erie County District Attorney John Flynn, Lewinski got into a verbal confrontation with Rocco Sapienza - another regular at the bar - after Sapienza noticed Lewinski was not wearing a mask while bringing buckets of beer to a band playing outside.At one point, Flynn said Sapienza got up and confronted Lewinski. That's when Lewinski stood up and pushed Sapienza "hard" with both hands, the D.A. said. Sapienza fell back and hit his head on the ground. Sapienza was taken to Erie County Medical Center in nearby Buffalo, where he was unresponsive for four days. He died on September 30.The cause of death is blunt force trauma to the head, authorities said.The owner of Pamp's Red Zone released this statement:"We are all deeply saddened by the loss of Rocco. He was a part of our Red Zone family and loved by all. "It's been a very heavy burden. ... No one wins. No one wins here."The announcement about the decision came Tuesday afternoon, after some downtown Indianapolis businesses boarded up their windows in preparation for potential unrest in the city.Due to the legal processes of a grand jury, Khoury couldn't discuss a lot of the evidence in the case.Dreasjon Reed was shot following a police pursuit on May 6 on Indianapolis' north side. Reed was streaming live on Facebook as he led police on the chase. The stream continued when Reed exited his vehicle near 62nd Street and Michigan Road.IMPD says Reed tried to run and the responding officer, identified as Dejoure Mercer, deployed a taser, striking him. IMPD reports allege that after being struck with the taser, Reed fired a gun and Mercer returned fire, striking him multiple times.Family members have argued that evidence suggests that Reed did not point a weapon at officers, although that evidence has not been shared."I don’t believe there could have been another prosecutor assigned to this case who was as neutral as I am or as objective as I have been over the last five months," Khoury said. In an instant, the windshield to Rob Weber's small airplane shattered while a thousand feet in the air. “I was pretty much on the edge of blacking out,” he describes. A camera in the cockpit captured it all. When you slow down the video, you can see a bird fly right through the windshield, forcing Weber to declare an emergency as he approached the airport in Fort Myers, Florida. “After I’d taken the hit to the head, I was really dazed,” Weber recalls. “I was having a hard time communicating with them, because I was knocked silly. I really couldn't focus on where I was or what was going on.” The latest data shows there are a record number of bird strikes involving planes, with more than 40 a day on average. A big reason for the spike: more flights and a jump in the bird population. “It's a classic probability situation. More planes and more large birds in the air at the same time,” explains Michael Begier with the National Bird Strike Committee. Begier works with the organization to track incidents and find ways to reduce them. Statistically speaking, the highest chances of being involved in bird strike are from July through October, during the day and while approaching the airport. The accident involving US Airways Flight 1549, known as the Miracle on the Hudson, is perhaps the most memorable and extreme example of how damaging bird strikes can be. Paycheck Protection Program funds helped keep more than 5 million American small businesses alive through the first half of 2020, but one woman has a warning for anyone applying for aid.Kelleye Thomas, who runs a home daycare, had to shut down for three months due to the pandemic.Her income dropped to zero during the shutdown, but like so many small business and independent workers, she was saved by the government's Paycheck Protection Program."I applied for that through the Small Business Administration, and I was granted a forgivable loan for ,500," she said.That lifeline turned into a financial nightmare because of where she deposited the funds. TAMPA, Fla. — A 10-year-old girl is making a big difference in the City of Tampa.Vivian Anderson wrote a letter to Tampa Mayor Jane Castor in December 2019 after seeing a “Men Working” sign at a construction site where men and women were working side-by-side.“Well I didn’t really like how it was excluding the women,” said Vivian.In her letter, Vivian suggested the sign should be more inclusive and say “Workers Present” instead. Days, weeks and months went by without a response from the mayor’s office.“I was thinking she probably wasn’t gonna get it,” said Vivian.“I told her the wheels of government work slow and that it takes time and we’ll just have to wait to see what happens,” said Mary Anderson, Vivian’s mom.Finally, a letter arrived and Vivian was thrilled.“Happy, really, excited. I started screaming in the living room,” she said.The city is now ensuring that inclusive signage is required instead of “Men at Work.” Vik Bhide, Mobility Department Director, says that will be done during the design review, permit review and coordination of work on all projects. Bhide says the city phased out that type of signage years ago, but they’re now making sure other companies and contractors are on the same page.Adding to Vivian’s excitement, a second letter arrived in the mail inviting her to meet with Mayor Castor.During the meeting, Vivian was presented with a hard hat and two signs. One read “Workers Present” with the Mayor’s signature and the other said “Vivian M. Anderson Way.”“This is awesome! I love it!” said Vivian.“We need that input, we need that creativity, that innovation, especially from the young people in our community because we’re gonna be handing this city off to them in the near future,” said Castor.
