State legislators will vote Monday on an emergency bill to block evictions across California when a moratorium expires on Sept. 1.The bill would extend the moratorium protections for tenants through January 2021, but evictions could resume in February.This bill, called the COVID-19 Tenant Relief Act of 2020, does two major things to protect tenants:1) It converts unpaid rent from March 1 to Aug. 31 to civil debt, meaning a tenant cannot be evicted for nonpayment. Instead, that person can ultimately be taken to small claims court.2) It prevents eviction of tenants who pay at least 25 percent of their rent from Sept. 1. to Jan 31, 2021. If a tenant pays at least 25 percent, the rest would be converted to civil debt. Otherwise, a landlord can begin eviction proceedings Feb. 1, 2021.Governor Gavin Newsom announced he would sign the bill once it reaches his desk.The Southern California Rental Housing Association expressed major concerns about the legislation, saying it does not protect against financial ruin for landlords. In a statement, it said the bill doesn't provide rental income assistance and does not guarantee landlords will ever get the money they are owed.The bill requires a two-thirds vote, and is expected to be taken up in both houses of the state legislature Monday. 1302

The Arab-American community is on high alert because of a hateful flier that is circulating.The flier promotes April 3 as "Punish a Muslim Day" and encourages violence against Muslims with an escalating point system the more outrageous the act.The fliers originated in London. They were left on the steps of several mosques there.The message is now being spread to the U.S. by way of social media and raising concerns.“We're encouraging the community to be vigilant and to have open lines of communication with local law enforcement. And, if you feel you’re in danger, call law enforcement immediately,” says American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee Legal and Policy Director Abed Ayoub. “ This is outrageous, this can not be happening in 2018. This is a clear sign of xenophobia, Islamophobia, and the unfortunate direction some individuals, not only in the UK, but in the United States are heading.”Ayoub says the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee stands ready to help those in the community who may be harmed through any hateful acts. 1068

Students at a California high school may have eaten cookies with another student's dead grandmother's ashes in them.Police are investigating after accusations have been made against students that they put the ashes in sugar cookies and gave them to nine classmates, according to KOVR in Sacramento.No one who ate one of the cookies got sick, the police report says."I have not heard of anyone getting sick, or anybody being harmed as far as physically or physiologically by this," Lt. Paul Doroshov with the Davis Police Department said to KOVR.The investigation is still ongoing; the cookies themselves have not been tested. 638

Stormy Daniels was "truthful about having unprotected vaginal intercourse with Donald Trump in July 2006," according to a polygraph test report from 2011.The report states that the "probability of deception was measured to be less than 1%." It was given to CNN by Michael Avenatti, Daniels' attorney and contains three pertinent questions: "Around July 2006, did you have vaginal intercourse with Donald Trump?," "Around July 2006, did you have unprotected sex with Donald Trump?" and "Did Trump say you would get on 'The Apprentice?'"Daniels replied yes to all three questions. The first two were analyzed to be truthful, the third question was "inconclusive" according to the polygraph examiner Ronald Slay.Polygraphs are generally inadmissible in court.The polygraph was performed at the request of Bauer Publishing, which owns Life&Style and InTouch magazines, according to the reporter who interviewed Daniels in 2011. Reporter Jordi Lippe-McGraw initially interviewed Daniels for Life & Style magazine. The interview was not published at the time, but Bauer Publishing released it in InTouch magazine earlier this year.Lippe-McGraw told CNN on Tuesday that Daniels passed the test in a broader sense. "Based off of the interview, we had her take the polygraph test to confirm the details of what she was telling us. There wasn't much in the way of physical evidence, per se," Lippe-McGraw said, adding that the big-picture question they wanted to confirm was that the affair happened, and that Daniels passed.
