(KGTV) - Escondido Police shot and killed a man Saturday night steps away from the entrance to the Valley View Casino in North San Diego County, according to the San Diego Sheriff's Department.The shooting happened about 8 p.m. following a brief pursuit.Lt. TUCSON, AZ - The United States Customs and Border Patrol says several agents were assaulted in two different incidents on Tuesday.Both incidents happened near the border, west of Tucson.In the first incident, agents were attempting to stop a human smuggling operation involving four male suspects. During the arrest attempt, one of the men became combative, according to Border Patrol.The 25-year-old Guatemalan national allegedly threw dirt at an agent’s face and swung a belt with a large buckle on it at an agent. After being taken into custody, the suspect also allegedly spit in an agent’s face.The three other suspects, including two illegal aliens and an Arizona man, were also arrested.In the second incident, Border Patrol says an agent was assaulted while attempting to arrest an illegal alien west of Three Points. The agent and a canine partner tracked the 36-year-old Guatemalan national into a desolate desert area. The man became combative and hit the agent several times, according to Border Patrol. The agent eventually took the man into custody. The suspect involved in the second assault was previously removed from the country in May for immigration violations. One agent was taken to a local hospital for evaluation and has been released.Border Patrol did not indicate which incident that agent was involved in. 1360

UPDATE 8:54 p.m. - Nov. 9, 2019SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The San Diego Police Department has called off Saturday's Amber Alert after determining that the man who reported his vehicle stolen with a child inside filed a false report.The man told officers that his acquaintance, 29-year-old Osman Rahimi, drove off in his vehicle with an 11-year-old inside, according to SDPD Lt. Shawn Takeuchi.The man described the boy, named Johnny Diaz, as a Hispanic child, 4 feet tall, wearing a white shirt and “Transformers” pajama pants."Detectives contacted the California Highway Patrol to put out an Amber Alert in an effort to find the boy," said Takeuchi.Oceanside Police Department officers located the vehicle and Rahimi near the Aliso Creek Rest Area but the child was not with Rahimi."SDPD officers took custody of Rahimi and transported him to SDPD headquarters along with the man who made the report, and the Amber Alert was cancelled," said Takeuchi.Takeuchi said they conducted numerous interviews and determined that no child was involved. Detectives are still working to determine if Rahimi is responsible for stealing the car.The man who made the report, who has not yet been identified, may also face charged of filing a false report, according to Takeuchi."While it appears the original report was false, the mission of our department is to protect all life," said Takeuchi. (KGTV) - Family members call a 12-year-old girl's survival after a small plane crash in Valley Center Sunday - a "miracle.""Racquel is always on our mind, and we are hopeful," said Roxana McInerny.A smiling photo of her niece Raquel Contreras was taken moments before her uncle Peter Bierle, a seasoned pilot, took her up in his single-engine, experimental aircraft, early Sunday evening. In the flight plan was a special flyover."She wanted to fly over her best friend's house and see if she could shout 'Happy Birthday!' and wish her a happy birthday," said McInerny. McInerny says about 30 minutes into the flight, they reached that friend's home along Palomar Vista Drive. Witnesses reported the plane circling the home and the sound of an engine sputtering, before the plane took a nose dive into the yard.Bierle, 57, died at the scene. Raquel was badly injured. Dozens of neighbors ran to the plane."She was stuck in some debris. They had to cut the seat belts away, I believe, to get her out of the plane," said McInerny.Raquel was rushed to the hospital with fractures to her skull, sternum and hand, also suffering internal bleeding, a brain bleed and spinal injuries. Raquel is now in stable condition in the ICU, conscious and will survive, but the long-term impact of her injuries remain unknown.Still, McInerny is beyond thankful."It's a miracle to think she has survived that's she's alive and recovering.
