RAMONA, Calif. (KGTV) — Two people were killed and a third person was seriously hurt in a head-on collision in Ramona on Wednesday.CHP said at about 12:15 p.m., a 56-year-old woman was driving a 2016 Ford Focus northbound on Mussey Grade Road, south of Mahogany Ranch Rd., at a high rate of speed. At the same time, an unidentified woman was driving a 2017 Subaru Impreza southbound on the same road.For reasons that are unclear, CHP said the driver of the Focus lost control of her vehicle and veered into the opposite lane, colliding head-on with the Impreza.The driver of the Focus and a male passenger in the Impreza died at the scene, CHP said. The driver of the Subaru was taken to Palomar Medical Center with major injuries.CHP says they believe both occupants in the Subaru were wearing a seat belt, but the driver of the Ford was not at the time of the crash.It's unclear whether alcohol or drugs played a factor in the crash. 943

Rattled by a string of explosions, which has put the city on edge for the last two weeks, a possible new explosion was reported Tuesday evening near a Goodwill store, the Austin Police Department said on its Twitter account. But after an hour of investigating, the police department said the explosion stemmed from an an incendiary device. The department said the incident was likely not connected to a previous string of explosions. One male said to be in his 30s was transported to the hospital. Their condition is serious, but the injuries are not expected to be life threatening. Tuesday incident comes just hours after a package detonated at a FedEx package handling facility in Texas.The package's intended destination is unknown.  770

President Donald Trump tweeted on Monday that Sec. of Defense Mark Esper has been terminated.Trump added that he has tasked Christopher C. Miller to take over as Acting Sec. of Defense.Esper took over as Acting Sec. of Defense in June and was named as the department's director shortly thereafter. Late last week, NBC News reported that Esper had drafted a resignation letter in the days following the 2020 presidential election.Esper has been at odds with Trump throughout his tenure. In June, he said he opposed the President's call to use active-duty military members to break up protests against police brutality in the wake of George Floyd's death.NBC News also reports that Esper plans to help Congress draft legislation that would re-name military bases that honor Confederate generals — a policy that Trump also opposes.Esper was Trump's second full-time Secretary of Defense. However, there are some new affordable and even free live tutoring options for those families.“We developed out two new products to aid our customers,” said Steven Cox, the CEO and Founder of TakeLessons.com.Take Lessons originally offered 1-on-1 tutoring online, but since the pandemic started it has launched two more affordable, live group tutoring programs. The first option is a month and offers unlimited live-tutoring sessions. The only catch is instead of the lessons being 1-on-1, each lesson is with a group of five to 20 students at a time.“It’s really a tremendous benefit for people who still need to get great education with quality teachers but simply it is out of their range to do private lessons,” said Cox.For some families, though, even a month is more than they can afford, so Take Lessons now has a free option. This option allows students to watch a live lesson, but instead of video chatting with a tutor, they have to message them. The groups of students in these live sessions are also much larger.“It is our way of giving back that I believe right now and where we are as a country is needed more than anything else,” added Cox.Take Lessons is not the only organization offering affordable and free help.“There are a lot of free resources that are available,” said Francesco Lecciso, co-founder of Brainfuse.Brainfuse has partnered with hundreds of public libraries around the country to provide free online live tutoring.
