SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Extreme temperatures set several records in cities across San Diego County on Saturday.As the region sweltered under the heat, the mercury went soaring. Seven records were set, including:Escondido: 111 degrees (old record was 108 in 1984)Ramona: 112 degrees (old record was 102 in 2006)Alpine: 113 degrees (old record was 110 in 1984)El Cajon: 114 degrees (old record was 107 in 1984)Palomar Mountain: 97 degrees (old record was 96 in 1955)Campo: 108 degrees (old record was 104 in 1955)Borrego Springs: 117 degrees (old record was 113 in 1989)Poway unofficially set an all-time record of 113 degrees, but it falls out of the National Weather Services 30-year period of record.Temperatures across the county on Saturday were forecasted to hit as high as 122 while many coastal areas could see high 90s.Saturday into Sunday, overnight temperatures along the coast, inland, and mountain areas will hover in the 70s most of the night, and 90s and 80s in the deserts. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Former San Diego City Councilman Carl DeMaio pulled nomination papers Monday indicating he may run for the East County congressional seat currently held by Rep. Duncan Hunter.DeMaio must file the paperwork with the necessary signatures for the 50th district race by Friday, according to his campaign.He issued a statement:“I appreciate all the San Diegans who have reached out to me to encourage me to run for Congress. If we want better results from government, we must first start by fixing Congress and holding them accountable when they violate the public’s trust.” 596

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Friends are grieving the loss of a young man killed in a South Bay crash that also sent five teenagers to the hospital. "This is like a bad dream and I want to wake up," said Ivan Nares.Nares says he got a heart-stopping call from his brother Gustavo, 18, from the emergency room Wednesday morning."He said, 'Ivan, Ivan, I need you. Please come,'" said Nares.RELATED: Driver killed in Otay Mesa SR-905 crash, several others injuredNares rushed to San Diego from his Tijuana home. His brother was a passenger in a Chrysler 300 packed with teens after a night at an indoor trampoline park.The CHP says around 9:15 p.m. Tuesday, the car was headed south on State Route 905 going at a high rate of speed when it hit the center divide near the Beyer Boulevard off-ramp. The 21-year-old driver was thrown from the car and died at the scene.Three males and two females, ranging from 15- to 19-years-old, were rushed to hospitals. Among them was Nares' brother, who suffered a fractured pelvis and two broken legs. He is uninsured. Gustavo is an amateur boxer and a recent graduate of San Ysidro High. He was in the process of applying to college. Instead, he faces a tough road to recovery."The advice give to all the people, especially young people is don't drive like you are in a 'Fast and Furious' movie. Be cautious. You're not just playing with your life. You're messing with other people's lives," Nares said.Nares has yet to tell his brother that his friend died in the crash. He's waiting for the right time. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Electric scooters are everywhere, even showing up on the freeways and on the Coronado Bridge.It’s an offense CHP says they’re seeing too often. Someone taking up the slow lane on one of the scooters.California vehicle codes prohibit electric scooters on any road with a speed limit of more than 25 miles per hour.CHP officer Jim Bettencourt says he’s even seen them on the Coronado Bridge. A sign clearly states that pedestrians, bicycles and motor-driven cycles prohibited.As drivers go onto the bridge, not even an inch of space exists on the shoulder. In fact, the City of Coronado banned the dockless bikes and scooters in march.If left parked, they’ll be impounded. CHP says fines for riding a scooter or a bike on the freeway can be up to ,000. 780
