SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - More than a hundred family and friends gathered for a memorial service Friday morning at St. Therese Catholic Church in Del Cerro, to remember Julia Jacobson.The retired U.S. Army Captain disappeared over Labor Day weekend and is believed to have been murdered, the priest talking of the "sting of death" and "death so sinful."Julia's car was discovered abandoned near her home in University Heights but there's been no sign of her or her dog, Boogie, despite many searches - which are ongoing.RELATED: Ex-husband of missing Army veteran arrested on suspicion of murderJulia was divorced. It wasn't a friendly parting and the ex-husband, Dalen Ware, was arrested in Phoenix last month; charged with her murder and currently awaiting trial.Friday, though, a tearful farewell for a lost friend.Jamie Mann described her as a battle buddy during the Iraq war."There isn't a day goes by I don't think of that girl and how she made me a better leader; just a better woman; and she loved everybody, touched so many people hearts, and she'll never be forgotten," Mann said.RELATED: Scholarship set up in memory of missing Army veteran Julia JacobsonJulia's brother, Jon, said one of his biggest honors was to pin Julia's lieutenant's bars on her."I was very proud of her; her service in Iraq, Serbia a little while. Mike Levin's “Valentines for Veterans” program, the holiday cards were collected from 49th District constituents thanking veterans for their service.“Our courageous military men and women earn our gratitude every day. Crafting Valentines for the upcoming holiday is a small way to show veterans in our district appreciation for risking their lives in defense of our nation,” said Rep. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Police are searching for a suspect they say hit a man with his car before leaving the scene in North Park. According to police, the suspect was driving without his headlights on near the 3800 block of 30th Street around 1:30 a.m.After the victim yelled at the suspect for not having his lights on, the two got into an argument before the victim walked away.When the victim was crossing 30th Street, police say the suspect hit the 30-year-old man with his car.The man was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.Police located the vehicle used in the incident on the 4000 block of Meade Avenue, but the suspect wasn’t inside. 674

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - More than 75,000 homes in San Diego are in areas that pose a "high" or "extreme" risk of wildfire, according to a new study by CoreLogic.That's the third most homes in the US, behind only Los Angeles and Riverside.In San Diego, the study found that it would cost .81 billion to rebuild all those homes.The news comes as San Diego, and California as a whole, are in the midst of a relatively tame wildfire season. According to Cal Fire, there have been 4,9267 wildfires so far this year. That's well below the pace of the last two years, when there were 7,571 fires in 2018 and 9,133 fires in 2017.Similarly, the amount of land burned by the fires is down in 2019. So far, 117,586 acres have been scorched. In 2018, the total number was 1,671,203 acres. In 2017, 1,240,606 acres were burned.Cal Fire says cooler temperatures and higher than normal humidity caused the number of wild fires to drop this year."When humidity is up, the fire doesn't burn as aggressively as it could if they were lower," says Cal Fire Captain Isaac Sanchez. "That's played a big factor for us this year."But, Sanchez warns that people shouldn't look at the low numbers and think the risk is also low. He says the next few months will have prime conditions for a devastating fire."We've seen the hottest days we're going to see, the temperatures have been warm, the humidity has been low," says Sanchez. "So the fuels that are in the hillsides right now are receptive to fires."Sanchez says people should remain fire-ready.
