ENCINITAS, Calif. (KGTV) -- The identity of the third victim in the Encinitas bluff collapse has been identified. According to the San Diego County Medical Examiner, 62-year-old Elizabeth Charles also died in the collapse. Her sister, Julie Davis and niece Anne Clave were also killed when the bluff gave way. "He immediately got out of the lifeguard tower, called it in, sized it up, started requesting resources and engaged in doing rescue work. (KGTV) - The bluffs that collapsed in North San Diego County Friday, killing three people, are a known trouble spot to a local geologist.Former San Diego State University professor Dr. Pat Abbott has led several geology field trips to Grandview Beach to point out unstable cliffs. Abbott described the cliff as a “solid mass of sand grains cemented together” that suddenly gave way on a sunny and warm afternoon. Waves erode the shoreline in addition to groundwater that seeps into the bluffs, leaving behind white streaks of salt and creating cracks, Abbott said. ESCONDIDO (CNS) - The driver of a Ford Mustang was killed when he reportedly crashed into three separate vehicles at a high speed on Interstate 15 in Escondido this morning, an officer said.A 25-year-old man was behind the wheel of a 2007 Ford Mustang around 6:20 a.m., heading south on I-15 just before state Route 78 when he approached stopped traffic and sideswiped a 2018 Ford Edge in the No. 2 lane of the freeway, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Kevin Smale.After the first crash, the Mustang struck a Ford F-450 two-axle truck stopped in the No. 1 lane, then another Ford F-450 in the No. 2 lane.The Mustang driver, who wasn't wearing a seatbelt, suffered major injuries and was taken to Palomar Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, Smale said.Drugs and alcohol were not suspected to be factors in the crash.Lanes of southbound I-15 were blocked in the area for about two hours after the crash while investigators and emergency personnel worked, Smale said.All lanes were re-opened shortly before 9 a.m. 1042

ESCONDIDO, Calif. (KGTV) -- Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred during a traffic stop in Escondido early Friday morning.The incident happened at around 3:45 a.m. on Broadway, near Washington Avenue, according to Escondido police.Police said officers were initially called to a home in the 300 block of Park Avenue due to a reported restraining order violation. In the call, a woman said her former husband, 44-year-old Rosendo Sandoval Quezada was at her home and she identified his vehicle.On Broadway, an officer spotted a white car being driven by Quezada and pulled him over.According to police, Quezada "exited his vehicle holding a 3-foot long crow bar and ran toward the officer."Police confirmed the situation prompted the officer to fire multiple shots. Quezada was struck in the abdomen, and he was transported to Palomar Hospital for treatment of his injuries.Police said the officer, who was not injured in the incident, is a 4-year veteran of the department. A lieutenant at the scene told 10News he believes this was the first time the officer was involved in a shooting. The officer was placed on administrative leave pending the investigation.According to police, the officer’s body camera was active during the incident.A stretch of Broadway at Washington Ave. was closed for several hours due to the probe. 1364
