GENEVA — The U.N. health agency says the world’s largest randomized trial of COVID-19 treatments found “conclusive evidence” that remdesivir, a drug used to treat U.S. President Donald Trump when he fell ill, has little or no effect on severe cases. The World Health Organization has announced long-awaited results of its six-month “Solidarity Therapeutics Trial” that endeavored to see if existing drugs might have an effect on the coronavirus. The study, which was not peer-reviewed, found that four treatments tested — remdesivir, hydroxychloroquine, lopinavir/ritonavir and interferon — had “ little or no effect on 28-day mortality or the in-hospital course of COVID-19 among hospitalized patients.” Remdesivir was the only drug of the four that had not largely been ruled out as ineffective in fighting COVID-19. 826

That’s one of the reason Sage student Miguel decided to sign up.“The money is really good, especially in this field — and I mean it’s just a lot to offer, benefits and money,” Miguel said.With a shortage of drivers, some companies are offering big signing bonuses for those considering driving. Solo drivers could receive a ,000 signing bonus, and team drivers could receive up to ,000.Jones believes more people would become drivers if they could afford the training.“With increased funding from the government helping with these new students through and getting them into the industry I think that’s a possible way,” he said.Even though Miguel is sacrificing a lot starting this career, he knows it’s beneficial to everyone.“It’s a full cycle. Grocery workers continue to be on the front lines during the pandemic.United Way and Kendall-Jackson are now teaming up to get grocery workers more help through a national relief fund they've created.“What we have seen across the county in other disasters natural disasters is that initially there's this outpouring of support and people want to donate, but then it really starts to wane and lag just as the needs are starting to get even bigger,” said Suzanne McCormick, U.S. President of United Way Worldwide.The Grocery Worker's Relief Fund will be available to anyone currently employed by a grocery store.The fund will be giving out 0 per person on a gift card. Anyone who applies will also be connected with the 211 social services helplines in their area to see if they have other needs.United Way says housing insecurity is one of the top issues people are calling 211 about right now.Mental health has also become a much bigger concern among the people who are calling.“While people might call for financial assistance our call specialists who are trained as they start to enter into dialogue, they do discover that there's more there that the person might have anxiety,” said McCormick. “They might be in a domestic violence situation or have very serious mental health issues.”Grocery workers can start applying for the relief fund on October 1 on the United Way website. HESPERIA, Calif. (KGTV) - Snow and ice created dangerous conditions for Southern California drivers on the ‘White Christmas’ Tuesday morning. In San Diego County, drivers spun out on icy roads in higher elevations, including Sunrise Highway on Mount Laguna.On Interstate 15, dozens of cars piled up on the northbound lanes in the high desert city of Hesperia, Victor Valley News reported. Mobile phone video showed a man yelling for people to leave the road, followed by the sounds of crashing cars. "As soon as I hit the top of the hill, it was ice, black ice. I crashed and everyone else around me was crashing too," Brian Bolik told Victor Valley News. "A car behind us went over the embankment and rolled." Bolik said he and another off-duty EMT heard a woman screaming in the pileup, VVN reported."I knew I needed to pull her out of the situation because the cars were just coming and coming, and then diesel trucks were also coming fast and she couldn't get out," stated Bolik. "She had a broken leg. At the time I didn't think about getting hit by other cars, I just wanted to help the lady to safety," Bolik told VVN.
