LA MESA (KGTV)— Meteorologists are predicting a wet Christmas week in San Diego. 10News revisited residents at the San Diego RV Resort in La Mesa that dealt with a Thanksgiving flood to see if they are prepared for the next set of thunderstorms. Taylor Jaime showed 10News around the RV resort. "She [My mother] was cooking a turkey at my sister's house for Thanksgiving," Jaime remembered. She said she never got to enjoy that turkey after her home got washed away. Jaime and her family live at the San Diego RV Resort full-time. On Thanksgiving day, heavy rains inundated the ravine that runs parallel to the resort. "So the water started coming over this [the wall]," Jaime motioned. The retaining wall collapsed and the water came up waist-high, destroying two of her cars, their 40-foot trailer and everything inside. Unfortunately, their the new RV was insured at the time of the storm. "The water was so nasty. There was crab, there was fish in the trailer," Jaime remembered. According to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the RV resort is right in the middle of a heavy flood zone. The resort staff told 10News they just finished rebuilding the wall Saturday. In the last month, Jaime said she saw Caltrans and California Conservation Corps workers clean up some of the debris, but she fears another collapse. "The water won't be able to go through. It'll get stuck down there, like last time," pointing at the west end of the resort lot.With heavy rains forecasted during Christmas week, some of Jaime's neighbors have already lined sandbags along their lots. Lucky for Jaime and her family, they have a spare trailer, albeit an older and smaller one. They parked it away from the ravine and closer to the entrance gate. Six people and several small animals are now crammed inside the trailer. They didn't skimp on holiday decorations, though."We are still in the spirit," Jaime said. "It's not going to bring us down. We are still a family. We still have each other. And that's what matters the most."10News reached out to San Diego RV Resort's parent company for comment to see if they are making other preparations ahead of the storm. LA MESA, Calif. (KGTV) - A La Mesa woman is on the hunt for clues, after she made a startling discovery near a sidewalk during a walk.Along scenic Explorer Road, Patty Serrano was finishing up a walk with a friend one afternoon two Fridays ago, when something on the ground caught her eye."First of all shock. Why is this on the ground? I picked it up. Dried it and flattened it," said Serrano.The document was a Plank Owner Certificate. Serrano, a retired Navy officer, knew exactly what that meant. "I knew those are rare, issued to people who are the first crew members of a ship," said Serrano.The certificates aren't official Navy documents. They are created and distributed by crew members. The ship attached to this certificate was the U.S.S. LAKEWOOD, Colo. — A hospital parking lot isn’t the typical place for a family reunion, but after 69 days in the hospital, it was the perfect place for the Rael family to gather to celebrate the fact that Wanda Vigil is now going home.Wanda spend 69 days at St. Anthony Hospital in Lakewood battling COVID-19 — 42 of them on a ventilator.“She’s a fighter. We were told 20 days in she probably wasn’t going to make it,” brother Alan Rael said.Alan and about two dozen family members gathered in the parking lot of St. Anthony’s on Thursday as Wanda was discharged from the hospital.“It’s a beautiful thing. It’s miraculous,” sister Linda Deborah Sanchez said.Hospital workers lined the lobby in a socially distanced fashion to clap and cheer as Wanda was wheeled out. Her family was waiting outside with signs and hugs.“I am so grateful,” Wanda said.She still has a damaged vocal cord, meaning she can only whisper, and her family acknowledged that she had plenty of recovery still to go.“She still has a journey ahead of her, but she’s alive,” Sanchez said.“My heart is so happy. I’m so happy. My family has been there through thick and thin,” Wanda said.Multiple members of the Rael family were diagnosed with COVID-19, and all recovered. They wanted to send the message that though this day was a happy one, and the vaccine is now being distributed, there are still many people in the hospital fighting the virus.“It’s a serious thing. LA JOLLA, Calif. (KGTV)-  A long-time animal rights activist who has filmed seals and sea lions harassed in La Jolla says people are not getting the message.Andrea Hahn has filmed the animals every day since 1994.  Footage from Sunday she says showed some of the worst behavior she has witnessed in recent months: a woman with a shovel disrupting pregnant mothers on the beach.Another video shows a grieving sea lion mother with her stillborn pup. It has generated over 100 million hits according to Hahn. She says the pregnant mothers are delivering more stillborn pups because people are not giving them proper space.  She has even witnessed tourists stepping on the pups.  "People are not getting it.  Tourists think because they paid money to get here they have the right to grapple with the animals.  There are perfectly good laws on the books and people are ignoring them and the government is not enforcing the laws," said Hahn.A "no-selfie" sign was recently posted at South Casa Beach.  It was posted to remind visitors that sea lions and the seals are protected by federal law, monitored by park rangers, and it's illegal to disturb them.  Access to the Children's Pool is closed due to pupping season but is set to reopen in May.  "Right now that area is safe and quiet for them.  It should be closed for good,' said Hahn. 1401
