Some Facebook users can now see whether their data may have been obtained by political data firm Cambridge Analytica.On Monday, the social media giant began rolling out a "see how you're affected" tool at the top of News Feeds to inform users if they're among the tens of millions of people who had their data improperly harvested by Cambridge Analytica.The full roll out will happen over time, so not all users will see the link at the same time.Users who were not affected will see a different link highlighting which apps are connected to their Facebook accounts and what data those third parties can see. The link also directs users to a tool that allows them to disconnect apps from accounts.Last month, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg promised to "show everyone a tool at the top of your News Feed with the apps you've used and an easy way to revoke those apps' permissions to your data."Facebook has also said it will reviews thousands of apps to search for additional abuse."If we find developers that misused personally identifiable information, we will ban them and tell everyone affected by those apps," Zuckerberg said.Facebook has been under fire since the Cambridge Analytica news broke last month. The controversy has raised questions about whether the social media giant does enough to protect user information.Last week, Facebook said Cambridge Analytica may have had information on about 87 million Facebook users without the users' knowledge. Previous reporting had put the number of users at about 50 million.The data obtained was originally collected by University of Cambridge professor Aleksandr Kogan who used an app called "thisisyourdigitallife," which offered a personality test. Facebook users who downloaded the app granted it permission to collect data on their location, friends and things they Liked. The data collection was allowed by Facebook at the time.However, Facebook has said that Kogan violated its terms of service by giving the information to Cambridge Analytica.Facebook banned Kogan and Cambridge Analytica from its platform last month ahead of a New York Times investigative report about how the data was passed on.On Tuesday, Zuckerberg will appear before Congress to discuss the data controversy.  2255

The action comes amid growing concerns that the Trump White House is trying to undermine the agency during the coronavirus pandemic while states expand mail-in voting options. A senior Democratic aide tells The Associated Press that House Democrats are likely to discuss the schedule on a conference call on Monday and are expected to be in session next Saturday.Pelosi sent a letter to Democratic members, stating that changes to the post office would "threaten to deny the ability of eligible Americans to cast their votes through the mail in the upcoming elections in a timely fashion. These delays also threaten the health and economic security of the American people by delaying delivery of life-saving medicines and payments. In 2019, 1.2 billion prescriptions were delivered through the Postal Services, including almost 100 percent from the VA to veterans." Any changes would need the approval of the Senate and president. Smash Mouth says they've received hate mail from fans after taking part in a concert during an event that's since been linked to the spread of more than 100 cases of COVID-19.The band performed an Aug. 9 concert at the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in South Dakota in front of a closely-grouped crowd. Many of those in attendance were not wearing masks. During the performance, lead singer Steve Harwell was heard saying, "f*** that Covid s***."In the weeks since the event, at least 103 cases of COVID-19 have been linked directly to the Sturgis rally. And while it's unclear how many of those cases (if any) are linked directly to the Smash Mouth concert, the band has faced criticism since its performance.Earlier this week, the band posted a video of "recent fan mail" that they've received. SPRING VALLEY, Calif. (KGTV) — A 76-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of intentionally sparking a fire that damaged a portion of an East County strip mall.San Diego Sheriff's deputies were called to a Spring Valley strip mall in the 500 block of Grand Ave. on Tuesday at about 8 p.m. over reports of a possible structure fire.When deputies and fire crews arrived, a woman was found nearby and determined to be a suspect. The woman, identified as Leona Head, is a transient in the Spring Valley area, deputies say.Deputies say Head admitted to starting the fire by trying to extinguish a lit cigar with a bottle of liquid labeled "Clorox." The liquid appeared to be a flammable substance and spread the fire to an electrical box adjacent to a strip mall.The fire spread to the roof of the strip mall before crews with San Miguel and Bonita Sunnyside fire departments were able to put out the fire.The fire damaged the exterior of the building and the electrical box. No injuries were reported.Deputies say Head admitted to setting two other fires ruled as accidental. She was booked into Las Colinas Detention Facility for arson. 1143
